One must eat when exploring the nice town of Uzès, so when all other places are full one might make the mistake to sit down at La Fontaine. The place is designed to milk tourism with mediocre food and horrible service.

I must admit, we didn’t actually taste the food so it might be a little unfair to give it one star based on the cappuccino we had. Still, it wasn’t a great precursor. The cappuccino was very bad and overpriced.

The real shocker was the service. In the past we’ve been served by uninterested students, grumpy old dudes wearing the same greasy shirt for a week and snobby sommeliers but never did we encounter people being as plain rude and unfriendly as at this place. Our friends sat down before we joined. Them having stated they wanted to have breakfast, they weren’t told the kitchen was closed. After 15 minutes of trying to get attention (place was nowhere near full btw), we did finally receive the information about the kitchen being closed. Not wanting to miss the market, we wanted to drink our coffee and leave. This was immediately met with outright anger and the manager got involved. A little debate ensued and we ended up having to pay the cover charge for a cover that never ended up getting changed, all because it’s apparently “normal in France” (it’s not), and we: “occupied the table”. Mind you, the restaurant wasn’t even 1/3 full. Which is good, because it means people...

Waitress who served us was lovely, and our group were enjoying ourselves until large chunk of rock fell from the wall of the inside where we were sitting and hit the chairs below and very close to our baby. Luckily the people who were sitting there previously had just gone to the toilet, but some debris ended up on the baby. Scary experience and could have been a lot worse, but the manager (man with glasses and a horrible attitude) immediately blamed us and said it was an old building and that’s the way it is. Not at any point did he apologise or show any sort of remorse. The waitress was very apologetic, but the manager was so rude and had no interest in our concerns whatsoever. Can’t believe there was no intention whatsoever from the manager to rectify the situation and take any responsibility - frankly disgusting considering someone could have been badly hurt. Avoid sitting inside here because if you end up being hit with rock it’ll be your fault according to the manager. A...

AVOID IF YOU HAVE ALLERGIES OR DIETARY REQUIREMENTS! We visited to celebrate a friends birthday. Despite ordering food with no meat from the menu, we were brought pizza with meat, they then tried to remove it and reserve the same (now cold pizzas) with ham still on it and badly picked off, they then did this again! And said they were 3 new pizzas but clearly weren't as we had cut into them! We then asked them to take just one pizza off the bill and they refused as we had eaten and they had 'made 3 new pizzas'. Obvious lies!

The manager with glasses was insanely rude, trying to exercise what little power he has in life, continued to treat us like idiots and refused to do the right thing!

Uzes is a lovely place but there are MUCH nicer places to eat where the food tastes good and service is...

We sat inside as we were unprepared for a storm on our French holiday and cold in the evenings. It felt awkward being inside as the staff kept staring at us, but I had to actually ask to be served most of the time. A bit of a miss-match? Our waitier of the evening we eventually got assigned spoke fantastic english, and was brilliant but rushed off his feet. His patience was beyond appreciated and his moustach fantastic! But yes service overall was really a bit memorably awkward more than anything overall, which is a shame as the guy we did get was trying so hard to keep all cuatomers happy. Food was delicious and worth the visit. Many thanks for the delicious Pavlova - free of blueberries ❤ Toilets were clean, but small and busy.
