AZZURRO Artisan Glacier — Restaurant in Nice

Came across this gelato shop which is across another well known competitor gelato shop. Tried one the day before and decided to give this a try as well to give comparison. This is a smaller shop of course, there is no dining area where you can sit down and eat comfortably, there are only a few chairs chained outside the shop which you can sit if it is not occupied. I don't really want to compare both shops because I think they are quite different in their own ways. I can say this shop has similar flavours of course but some are pretty innovative as well. I saw the pistachio and white chocolate and tried it tastes pretty good! They are also quite focused and tend to have a bigger variety of floral gelato from what I see. If you are an adventurous person, I would say they are worth trying. I chose Violet as one of my flavours and I would say its definitely special cause never tried the flavour in my life before. They might "seem" to have lesser flavours but their flavours are on the creative side so it is still not easy to decide on what to choose. I'm glag they do actually offer sampling so I got to sample a few flavours before eventually deciding on the flavours I wanted. You can smell the fragrance of the freshly baked waffle cones, they really are made to order so freshness is guaranteed. On the positive side, the prices are also slightly cheaper. There is no clear winner but I think individuals have their own preference. Still worth checking this...

Cone was mouldy, when asking for a refund we were told no because some of the ice cream had been eaten. Terrible quality and even worse service.

Owner replied:

Non mais ça c est trop fort vous mangez la glace et après vous voulez qu'on vous rembourse ? Audiard disait les cons ça ose tout et c'est d'ailleurs à ça qu'on les reconnaît

Translated:

No, but that's too strong, you eat the ice cream and then you want to be reimbursed? Audiard said idiots dare everything and that's how we recognize them

Under no circumstances should mould ever be tolerated in your business as this poses a serious health risk. This is a direct consequence of your lack of food standards.

Customers should not be expected to check their food for mould. We only discovered the mould on the cone after eating the ice cream and felt utterly disgusted afterwards. We would never have eaten it had we realised sooner.

The way the owner replied to my initial review speaks for itself and should give sufficient insight into the way this business treats...

This place used to be a favorite. But they’ve raised their prices, lowered their quality, and now give extremely small, child size portions with the hope you will buy more scoops. On top of the cheapness of their offer, they refused to give an extra paper napkin to my 88 year old father, saying he needed to buy another ice cream to get another napkin. Literally, they refused an elderly gentleman a single, paper napkin after he dropped fifteen Euros to buy the family ice cream. They must be under new ownership because we’ve been coming back here for years and never experienced such poor quality and terrible service. Sad to how see people buy businesses and then ruin what was once a wonderful experience. Fortunately, there are many ice cream choices in the old city in Nice.
