As loyal customers for 20 yrs who’ve even referred family and friends here who’ve stayed here, here is the room we were given and how we were treated this September: Room overlooking a dirty service terrace and the bowels of the kitchen. Dirty “garden terrace” opened onto a service terrace and (overlooked kitchen alley) which had many lost guests wandering through at all hours, the gate to our small sad area didn’t lock or even close properly. Had to keep shades closed at all times unless you wanted people staring directly into your room, which they did. Noise from the electric in the kitchen so loud we asked if we could move rooms which was denied but that they “cut the electric” in the kitchen. The next day the noise was back on. We did not complain again and lived with it. Dirty linens: Hairs in the sheets. On further inspection of a dark spot under the sheet to ensure it wasn’t blood, were a massive amount of hairs and other particles on the mattress cover. Disgusted, we called the front desk and they sent up a service man, not housekeeping, with new sheets. He had to come back with the correct mattress cover and said housekeeping would change the sheets and other side of the bed’s mattress cover the next day. Ended up sleeping on top of the bed because was too grossed out to keep inspecting the sheets (only got a picture of side they did not change, side they did change was much filthier). While the staff makes great effort to point out the remodeling of the hotel, our bathroom was from the year 1. Rotting wood and rust stains, old toilet and shower, inconsistent and not very clean. Hairs and dirt on some towels, and dust and hair in the bathtub. Possible blood stain on the curtain to door outside. Filthy vents. Weird elevated connecting door to the room next to us, with a terrace right on top of ours. First night had a screaming baby, and last two nights had college kids partying til 2am. Freezing cold AC. There was no AC unit in the room, only vents. There was a remote that supposedly controlled it but it did not work (probably because there was no unit to point it at). After asking the front desk several times for help turning the AC off, we were painfully cold and have health issues, so the rude man who checked us in was so unbelievably nasty and arrogant to my mother. Implied she was stupid for not being able to work the AC. We’ve never been treated like this in any hotel anywhere. After being spoken to so appallingly my mother expressed how dissatisfied we were overall and how we nor our friends would not be coming back and we would be leaving a negative review. Only at this was she contacted by a manager the next day and offered to move to a suite for the last night. A little too late to pack up all of our things. We honestly just couldn’t wait to get out of there. Continued to have the same AC and privacy issues throughout the last day and the manager couldn’t have cared less. Months prior to our stay we requested the room we usually stay in and were told since they remodeled it could no longer fit three people. We peeked in while housekeeping had the door open and it was exactly the same. We could have easily and comfortably fit. The “remodeling” of the hotel overall is just surface redecorating that is cheaply done and already falling apart. We much preferred the more elegant Provençal decor they used to have. The pool area hasn’t been touched at all. Old dirty cushions and collapsing lounges. Pool paint and walls cracking and dirty. One positive was the lovely man and young woman from the Islands at breakfast, they provided great service every morning. However, the quality of food has definitely gone downhill. We love Nice and will be back but will be staying somewhere better updated and with more respectful and caring service.
Edit:In response to your flawed sequence of events and recollection of how each disaster of our stay was handled, I will only waste time to answer to one rather serious accusation. The photos posted are directly from our room’s interior...
Read moreSome of this was bad luck, but there were quite a few issues with our stay. We had multiple rooms, so I think we had a pretty fair view of things. The staff were all very nice, welcoming, helpful and responsive. It's a great location. Rooms look nice and the AC worked well. ||||The room had a nice balcony that looked onto a rooftop before the ocean. What I didn't realise at first is that the rooftop was the extended balcony of a suite that subsumes other balconies, so you might be lying on your bed and look out of the balcony window to see some of the other guests staring at you.||||Bathrooms were nice but could do with some maintenance. Shower heads tend not to stay up because the holders need tightening. Toilet flush mechanism are cheap and tend to get stuck.||||At one point water started dripping through the ceiling, but when this was reported it was dealt with quickly and this only affected one of the rooms.||||One of the most annoying things was that the fire alarm went off on 2 separate nights at 1am. The hotel staff at the time of the alarm didn't seem very well organised, but luckily there wasn't an actual fire. ||||Strangely one of the rooms was replenished with amenities quite well but the other was not. One room only had the complementary water replaced only once in the space of week, while the other had it daily. We sometimes ran out of toiletries and were lucky to be able to borrow from other rooms. ||||Another disappointment was the gym, which was one of the reasons I picked this hotel, but ended up not using. One issue is that it doesn't open until 9am, so you won't have chance to work out before breakfast. Another killer is that it doesn't have AC, so I can't imagine anyone wanted to use it in the height of summer, especially not after 9am.||||Two issues with the room were introduced by the cleaning staff, but not reported by them. On separate days our sink and our toilet were clearly broken while we were out of the room. Once I reported these issues, they were dealt with quickly, but I would rather whoever broke them had reported them. ||||The hotel restaurant is very nice. Food was excellent. However it's very small, so you'll be lucky to getting a table. We tried to book a table 24 hours in advance, but we're told it was fully booked, so you might want to make reservations before you arrive.||||Given that some if this was clearly bad luck, I would actually recommend this hotel with some caveats and in spite of the issues we had a very...
Read moreLet me preface this by sharing that this is my first ever negative review of an establishment.
My husband and I paid €850 per night for a BASIC room. We would have been very happy with this price point based on how the hotel presented itself in photographs online. The location of this hotel is great, and the room was clean (I mean - that's baseline expectation). Unfortunately, those are the only two positive features I have to share.
The hotel was recently "renovated" and has presented itself online as a 4 star boutique luxury property. However, I would equate this hotel to a 2 star Holiday Inn in terms of quality. Even at a basic hotel you can expect the TV and WIFI to work - not at this "luxury" hotel. We voiced our concerns to the manager following a night of maintenance person visits in an attempt to resolve the TV and WIFI issues. It became clear to us after speaking with her that this was a well known ongoing issue. She offered to make a price adjustment to our final invoice upon checkout. This was not communicated to the front desk staff, so we had no choice but to pay in full and were given a BUSINESS CARD for us to get in touch with them.
This disappointment was our last hotel on our trip south from Paris where we stayed at hotels at a higher and a lower price than our stay here, but ALL of them were exceptional and exceeded our expectations.
Based on our extensive travel experience and the comparative prices in Nice, we believe a reasonable rate for this room is €400-€500 MAX.
PS valet was not included - this was the only hotel that charged us to valet.
We welcome the opportunity for a manager to follow up with us to remedy the situation as promised.
Chris & Kaitlyn Ellis
EDIT: Management followed up via email and a voicemail to confirm a €100 credit per night in response to the issues with the room. Management also confirmed that whilst valet is free, parking is €30 per night. From a guest experience perspective I do not distinguish between the two services but acknowledge their response (see attached screenshot from their website regarding...
