I had a lovely evening with dinner and drinks with my friends tonight however upon departure the night was completely ruined with my worst experience in Nice after living here for 2 months.
I left the restaurant with my two friends and crossed the street. We were discussing where to go to next for a drink. The next thing we know three men are chasing and shouting at another two men and start beating them violently outside Movida under the archway on the street.
Even as a female I won’t tolerate this sort of behaviour and the victim was defenceless perhaps under the influence of alcohol with the attacker taking punches and kicks. I shout to stop and run towards them shouting to stop! The attacker then becomes incredibly aggressive verbally and threatening physically raising his fist at me. The man was clearly not afraid to assault a male or female! My friends (another female and one male) also stepped in to try diffuse the situation but the attacker then turns more aggressive towards my friends and threatens them. Shouting abuse and being discriminative because we were English (both women and our male friend was French).
After the abuse he walked away still shouting and sits down at a bar stool and table with his other violent friends outside Movida as if they were “bouncers”. After just dining in the restaurant and saying Au Revoir & Bon Soirée to the staff we were completely shocked to see them sitting with arrogance and confidence still shouting across the street at me and my friends. The waiter who seated us was also stood beside the abusive men at the entrance and pretended nothing happened.
I was appalled at the whole situation of firstly viewing such violence from the “bouncers” at just after 11pm tonight then being physically threatened and verbally assaulted. I would not wish this upon anyone else and suggest avoiding at all costs as this behaviour is completely unacceptable. Even if one person reads this and avoids I hope the owner/management of Movida reviews it also and looks into the assaults happening at this establishment.
The violence and threatening violence is complete unacceptable and I would not wish this upon any other innocent bystanders who will stand for violence or abuse of any kind! It’s 2022…sort it out...
Read moreModiva is a trendy drinks and tapas bar located right on the Promenade des Anglais in Nice France. It has an amazing location, except the ground level outside is a bit sunken rather then street level, so you can't see the ocean as well as the street level establishments. The second floor is great for drinks, but, food service runs a bit slowly, because you are on the second floor. The staff is amazing, everyone is friendly, they speak French or course, but also English and a few other languages. Please always remember to say Bonjoir and merci, as without this anywhere in France you will come across as rude. That being said, the staff is amazing the vibe is quite good as well. When it comes to the food and drinks, that's a hit or miss in my opinion. Their guac was great, the fried prawns with Thai chilli sauce was also amazing, but the spinich pasta and the mozzarella sticks, well, not so good, actually quite bad. The wine list is meh at best and their cocktails range from excellent to, this mixed drink is no tres bien. Overall it's more like a 2.5 star place rather than 3. You would do much better going to Babel Babel another block down for the same vibe a better view, better wine and much better food. I would have to say Movida is a...
Read moreWe were 7 friends going out and 4 of us went to Movida and the other 3 came about 10 minutes later. Our friends explained that we were 7 and got a table put together for us. Three sketchy men were sitting outside the bar so we just walked in to our friends and one of the guys shouted at my friend and grabbed her arm. They explained that they were the bouncers and we apologized for the misunderstanding. We had thought that the men were just costumers, since they were sitting there drinking beer, and cat calling us, therefore ignoring them. After we apologized one of the men wouldn’t let us in because ”I told you to wait 3 times” even though we were old enough to go in. Even after all of our 5 friends, who were already inside, told the man that we were with them, he told us we were not allowed inside. His ego was too big to even listen to us.
Horrible experience, please...
