This is one of my favourite restaurants, anywhere. Positioned on a set of steps which make up a ridiculously short street in the heart of old town Nice, it's a magnet for passing tourists wanting a to take a snap of this picturesque streetscape. Once seated outside the restaurant (which is where most diners opt to eat) the view looking down those cascading steps with pastel coloured buildings all around is equally charming. I've been told all their food is good, but I cannot comment on the bulk of their menu because I've only ever eaten one dish here. Their bouillabaisse is to die for, and the portion is so large that the thought of eating anything else is quickly dispelled. The broth is exquisite but it will be some time before you get that far. First you must work your way through a mountain of different varieties of fresh fish, clams, and prawns. It's not often you'll see so much seafood in one bowl, which is piled higher than Dolly Parton's hair. If you can manage it, use some of the baguette served with the dish to mop up the delicious broth when you finally reach it. This is more than a meal, it's an experience for all your senses. There are classier restaurants, and many variations of this classic soup. But if you want to indulge in a truly amazing meal served by smiling wait staff in a setting that's dripping with Nicosian atmosphere, and for a very reasonable price, you simply can't beat Le Barbecue.

Quite a windy road trying to find this place but everything here was amazing! I don't think we would have come across it if I hadn't looked it up on Google trying to find a Portuguese restaurant in Nice. Everything we got was amazing! And really big portion sizes as well! Goat Cheese & Ham Salad - They put little bits of the goat cheese on toasted spaghetti slices on top of the salad and that was a really nice touch. Salad itself had the dressing on top which was nice but a little too much dressing. Ham was also flavorful but could have had more ham on there. Octopus Salad - very unique salad! It was a citrusy flavor of octopus on a bed of greens. The flavors really went well together. Octopus was cooked perfectly, and quite a large amount of octopus as well. Spicy half chicken - It was really delicious! Meat was perfectly cooked. Soft and tender and very flavorful! Quite a large amount of chicken as well and we appreciated that. It came with some roasted potato and some sauce on the side. Not sure what that sauce was but it went really well with the potatoes! Pasties de Nata - So good and so fresh! Pastry was flaky and crispy and the custard side was smooth as well. They gave it with some spices on the side (wasn't exactly cinnamon so I'm not too sure what it was); Sprinkled a little bit of that on top and it took it to another level!

The prawns we were served were full of sand and grit, making them impossible to enjoy. When we raised this issue, the server told us it was because the gambas veins had not been cleaned and that we should clean them ourselves at the table. This is not only unreasonable but also unhygienic — no customer should be expected to “finish cleaning” their food in a restaurant. Even after attempting to clean them, the prawns were still gritty. The server then said the dish could be removed from the bill. But when it came time to pay, they refused to honor this, accused us of being dishonest because we had tried to eat some of the dish, and went so far as to mock us by saying it was the first time they had met customers who “didn’t know how to clean shrimp veins.” This behavior is completely unprofessional. Serving food that is not properly cleaned, blaming customers, going back on their word, and insulting guests is unacceptable. Customers come to a restaurant to be served properly prepared food — not to be handed dirty prawns and told to deal with it themselves. If this is how the restaurant treats guests, then people deserve to know.
