If you're looking for affordable authentic food, then the food is good. If you're looking for good bar service, look elsewhere. This is only relating to the bar; our server was clearly drunk (nearly falling onto a couple next to us) and took forever to allow us to settle our bill. We were happy to pay cash, but the server said they didn't have enough change for us, so the final 40 cents 'might' come... honestly, if he hadn't been drunk or slow, I'd have happily said not to worry about the change. After waiting again, we asked if they had change, which they begrudgingly gave us, while another server mocked us, asking if we'd like more change. If you choose to eat their food (and I encourage you to try it and meet the lovely food staff) avoid the bar and take your food to eat somewhere else. Nice has many better places to enjoy. I should say some of the bar staff were nice, just not the men who served us. Perhaps the bar can change their pricing so that giving correct change isn't such...

I think this is probably generally regarded as the best place for socca in Nice - it certainly must be one of the most popular.

Actually getting the famous socca typically requires some patience - although you can order drinks from the waiter, for food you have to queue up at the counter. On our first visit - a Saturday in September around lunchtime - the queue was really long, and quite slow moving - I must have spent at least 20 minutes waiting. There's actually two sections to the counter, the first for various deep fried items like beignets de fleurs de courgettes. If you just want something from that counter you can be out of the queue much quicker. The socca seems to be the real bottleneck - when it gets busy they just can't produce it quickly enough.

Still, if you either go when it's quiet, or don't mind queuing, then the socca is really good, and I possibly like the courgette flowers even more. The atmosphere was very lively even at lunchtime, and there's plenty of...

You come to Nice looking to try the food someone tells you, you need to try Socca. So u take a walk around old town Nice and stumble across this place and it looks legit, but I feel if its your first time its almost a scam because although it's not bad it certainly was and can be better than it is currently. Keep in mind I'm talking purely about the Socca but it frustrates me that 4 or 5 years ago it was probably the best place to get Socca in the old town if not all of Nice but because it became so popular I felt the quality degraded quite a bit. alas it's not the worst nor as good as it was before, but the atmosphere is cheerful and the scenery of the old town of Nice is amazing so in conclusion if you want really good socca I'd suggest somewhere else but if your looking for the experience and atmosphere of Nice it...

Avoid! Such a rude service! Never ever again! No idea why people make such a line… guess it’s only for tourists! We got some food with my friend and we took a sit and guess what… the waiter was super rude and asked us to go away as we did it want to order drinks. The lady who was selling us food never mentioned we have to buy drinks! We could not leave with plates so we had to eat while standing! Mamy tables were empty! Then he complained we even stand! And was calling other waiters to see us and they were lounging… happy we made theirs day! But really… will never understand this aggression while you can normally talk to your clients!

The socca was good - but a little flat in taste, but we could add salt and pepper to taste. Also had anchovies pie, which was also a little seasonless, but anchovies was good. Location is also good and you can pay with card, at least for drinks. For socca not sure, as you have to order separately and we paid with cash there. But the service was rather rude, we waited really long for anyone. I finally went in to order but was sent out as "waiter will come". Although we had already waited and still waited then. Also, none of the staff was wearing masks... and the tables were sticky and not very clean. So not impressed.

The first ever place in Nice where we tried socca. Although queuing for 40 minutes, the wait was worth while as what we received was perfectly tasty plate of food. The reason for 4 stars, not 5 is that we then tried socca in Nice Old Port area a few days later and THAT is worth 5 stars. Rene Socca has the longest queues in Nice, that must mean popularity, loads of French amongst tourists too. I'd say go there if you won't get another chance to try socca. It's a little stodgier than a competitor but flavour and overall experience of trying something very special to the area is worth the wait in the queue.
