Spectacular food, a charming atmosphere, and shockingly reasonable prices make Le Socle, Rue Barla, Nice, the perfect restaurant for something casual, or a celebration dinner. It was the number one choice for my birthday dinner. Succulent lamb and chicken, both cooked to perfection in a puddle of savory sauce, silken mashed potatoes, creamy dauphinoise, fresh winter vegetables roasted to a nutty char, and fresh, crunchy, greens dressed with a vinaigrette that perfectly offset the richness of the other dishes. We ended our meal with Crepes Suzette (we watched him flambe!) and a chocolate treasure best described as "if a chocolate souffle and a chocolate truffle had a baby..." We enjoyed a glass of the house white, which was fruity but dry. The playlist was sophisticated mid-century music with light Motown (Otis Redding and Marvin Gaye.) It was my birthday and at the end of our meal, the waiter/owner brought out 2 fresh-from-the-oven madeleines (all tender interior and crunchy-edged deliciousness) with a sparkly, lighted candle. I was overwhelmed by the kindness. No wonder this gem is in the Micheline Guide....

A very big drawback in this restaurant is the smell of the cooking when you get in to the restaurant till the minute you leave, you should wash your clothes and hair after you leave.
The Restaurant deserves to be selected by Michelin, it has it all except for the disturbing smell.
As for the price, most of the items in the menu includes supplementary price, that means, 50% of the entrees, mains and desert have an additional price to pay in addition to the 39 Euros formula, (you add from 10-22 euros, it depends on the type of plat selected) eventually, you can select the dishes without a price addition and pay 39 euros for entree platter, and desert.
I would go again and again if the smell problem...
Read moreI booked Le Socle to celebrate my 40th birthday in Nice. Originally from Scotland, I was visiting for four days to celebrate and wanted a venue that was both spectacular and authentically French. Le Socle absolutely did not disappoint. Mikael was in touch with me throughout the process, and the communication was fantastic. He found ways to personalize my experience, and every question I had was answered promptly. He even secretly coordinated with my husband, who wanted to add some personal touches to the evening. I truly feel overwhelmed with happiness and wish I could give more than five stars for this experience. The atmosphere, the food, and the service were all amazing. Mikael and Dominique make an incredible professional team, and they went above and beyond to make my 40th birthday celebration the...
