Babbo Mio – A Culinary Gem in Nice
Babbo Mio
During our recent visit to Nice, we had the pleasure of dining at Babbo Mio, and it was an unforgettable experience. Located between Place Garibaldi and the Port of Nice, this modern Italian trattoria offers a retro ambiance that transports you back to the 1930s.
The service at Babbo Mio is unparalleled. The maitre d’, in particular, stands out for his warmth, attentiveness, and exceptional competence, ensuring every guest feels valued and well-cared-for.
The culinary offerings are nothing short of spectacular. The pasta dishes are a testament to authentic Italian cuisine, boasting flavors that are both rich and deeply satisfying. Each plate is presented with artistic flair, reflecting the chefs’ dedication to both taste and aesthetics.
The restaurant’s interior combines wood and leather elements, adorned with black-and-white portraits that pay homage to Gino Senior, creating an intimate and nostalgic atmosphere. Large mirrors enhance the space, adding to its cozy feel.
For those who prefer dining al fresco, Babbo Mio boasts a spacious terrace on Place du Pin, perfect for enjoying long summer evenings while observing the lively surroundings. With a capacity of about sixty seats indoors and nearly as many outdoors, it caters comfortably to both intimate dinners and larger gatherings.
In summary, Babbo Mio offers an exceptional dining experience in Nice, combining outstanding service, delectable cuisine, and a charming ambiance. It’s a must-visit for anyone seeking authentic Italian flavors in a setting that beautifully marries tradition...
Read moreThis was a truly bizarre experience! We were visiting Nice in the spring of this year & in the mid afternoon found ourselves on rue Napoleon near to the Babbo restaurant. No local cafes were open so we popped in for a coffee and maybe a slice of cake. There were no other customers in the place. We were given a very luke warm reception by the staff but we made it clear upon entering and being shown to a table that we were not intending to dine but only required two cups of coffee and a patisserie. The coffee arrived and as we drank it, the waitress returned saying that she would now take our order. We explained that she had delivered our order and that we were not intending to order a full meal. The waitress was insistent that we did saying that we couldn’t merely have a coffee! We told her again that we had made clear on entering that we only wanted a coffee & cake. The situation became increasingly fraught when she became visibly angry and told us that we had to order a meal and if we didn’t, she would fetch the manager! We couldn’t believe this appallingly rude manner and next minute to our table came the manager who reiterated that we had to place a full meal order! As discussing was futile, we got up, left cash to cover the coffees & left. This experience was breath taking and we will never darken the doors of this so-called restaurant again. We have spread the word about this dreadful place to avoid friends experiencing similar unpleasantness. The irony is that we may well have returned to Babbo that evening for dinner had they been even...
Read moreIncredibly disappointing experience. Looking at the menu items & how popular this establishment seems to be - we thought this would be the dinner highlight of our day/trip.
We were pretty quickly sat down by who we are assuming is the manager. Unfortunately, we waited 30 minutes before we decided to admit defeat and leave. We weren’t greeted by a server to even get water within those 30 minutes. It took 15 for the manager (who should not be needing to bring menus but maybe that’s the American in me) to even bring menus and another 15 before we even saw a server who wasn’t in our section. Meanwhile, two people at a table directly next to us were served and got their food by the time we left. In the time we were sitting, we weren’t not greeted by a server. At that point, if we had stayed - it likely would have taken double the time to get a pizza with how long it took to even get a menu.
Maybe it is disorganization, not assigned table sections, or just the demand of how “popular” this place seems to be. Seemed as though they were more concerned with emptying and re-filling the empty tables than serving the tables they sat. The manager was quickly wiping tables down to get people sat but once they were sat, nothing. No one came over, even the table next to us - the women tried to get a server or manger’s attention three times before they finally remembered their drinks.
Overall - incredibly unfortunate experience (especially for our last night in Nice) where they don’t seem to know how to handle a crowd. Good luck if...
