Never again: An unprofessional waiter and a humiliating experience.

If you're looking for a café where you're treated with respect as a customer, this is not the place. My experience was absolutely unpleasant and, frankly, bizarre. I went for breakfast, ordered a pot of tea and two coffees, and while I was taking some time to respond to emails, I witnessed an incident that I never thought I'd experience.

I was standing, putting on my coat near the couch, when the waiter, while serving the table next to mine, dropped something on the floor. What was his reaction? Instead of apologizing professionally, he turned to me and, in broken French (though I understood him just fine), blamed me for what had happened. Unbelievable! I calmly explained that where I was standing had no impact on the table, but he, instead of acting reasonably, raised his voice and started shouting at me as if I were responsible for his clumsiness.

That wasn't all. The man, visibly upset, kept shouting in my direction and even insulted me. When I told him again that I had nothing to do with the incident, he threw cutlery on the floor like he was in some kind of argument, making a scene in front of other customers. Honestly, I'd never witnessed such an irrational and inappropriate reaction.

This kind of behavior is not only unacceptable, but it's also outrageous. While I tried to stay calm and handle the situation civilly, the waiter showed no manners whatsoever and was completely out of control. The whole experience was surreal and left me in shock. I will never step foot in this place again, nor will I recommend it to anyone.

In summary, a mediocre café with absurd service. If this kind of behavior continues to be tolerated, I wonder how many other customers have found themselves in similar situations. The waiter's attitude is completely out of line and a total lack of professionalism.

If he were a bit smarter and less of a dramatic, bizarre Frenchman, he could have easily served from the other side of the table and avoided causing such a...

Café Paulette fell far short of expectations, leaving a bitter taste that lingers long after the last forkful. We booked for lunch and were warmly greeted on arrival. The daily specials were explained and ultimately my husband ordered one of the daily specials and I ordered eggplant parmigiana off the menu and a glass of champagne....all good so far.

The glass of champagne that arrived sat listless, devoid of effervescence with no elegant stream of bubbles, no celebratory fizz. It was, in truth, more a white wine. I enquired about the date the bottle had been opened, and I was assured that the champagne was from a boutique winery, and the bubbles were 'tiny, indiscernible, as intended'. I relented and accepted the glass, after all the flavour was nice, for a wine. I decided to order a second glass and guess what, the second glass came full of bubbles and visible effervescence. One must ask, why lie? Just open a new bottle. At 15€ ($26AUD) a glass, I was disappointed that a restaurant would risk their reputation just to unload the last glass of a flat bottle of champagne.

I wish that was the end of our disappointment, but it was not. When the meals arrived, my eggplant parmigiana was substituted with the daily special of a piece of fried eggplant on a bed of yoghurt. When I stated that I had ordered eggplant parmigiana, the server insisted that I had ordered the eggplant daily special. It was not until my husband stepped in that she relented and returned the dish to the kitchen. The meal that was ultimately served was undercooked and obviously rushed, making what should have been a lovely lunch into a dining disappointment experience...

I think that it’s important for a restaurant to know immediately when there is an issue with the food or service in order to have an opportunity to make a correction. Unfortunately, when one my friends had a health issue from the food at Café Paulette, we were met with a very ill-mannered response. When we visited a few weeks ago, my friend got something stuck in her throat from the food. The servers advised that she drink water and swallow bread to push it down. Although neither worked, we were sitting next to a doctor who overheard the conversation and helped remove the object, which we initially presumed was a large fish bone in the ceviche dish. After we paid the bill, we spoke to an older female and male server asking that the chef pay closer attention to the preparation of the food in order to avoid potential incidents in the future. In response, both of the servers questioned our backgrounds asking “Where are you from?” and responded by saying that “In France, fish comes with bones.” and “This isn’t a chicken dish.” Instead of an apology, both started joking about what could have resulted in a serious health issue. As we later found out, my friend ended up choking on the sharp stems of the “edible” flowers that were added to the dish (shown in the pictures). It was upsetting that neither server replied with an apology when we brought the issue to their attention, but responded in an extremely disrespectful manner so I think it’s important for future customers to be aware of this behaviour before deciding to visit Café Paulette.

Absolutely outrageously overpriced and rude customer service Sat down for lunch and noticed no price advertised for their lunch time specials in their board at entry as is required by law. We wanted the steak with fries. We asked the waiter the price and were told it was €95 Absolutely shocked at the price and asked why a steak was €95 in a cafe? The waiter then proceeded to remove the menus from our table and slapped me on the back and replied that we should leave and “go eat crap food somewhere else” Would not recommend this restaurant! Went to the restaurant next door as we were astounded by the rudeness of the staff As we sat at our table next door the manager from Cafe Paulette in front of his customers proceeded to shout obscenities over at us as we sat having our lunch and when we left continued to berate us shouting “you poor people shouldn’t come here” Absolute rude and disrespectful customer service
