LOU BANTRY — Restaurant in Nice

A 1- star is too generous...I was a tourist from the United States on vacation in Villefranche. Details of our very poor experience...After reviewing the posted menu from the street and seeing no actual reception area, my husband and I smiled at the nearby waiter and warmly greeted him with a "Bon Jour, une table pour deux?" He nodded at us, wiped a few tables, and walked inside. We assumed he was preparing a table for us, but after waiting several awkward minutes, and seeing no "wait to be seated" signs or reception area, we sat ourselves at one of the many open tables at seaside. When the waiter finally reappeared, instead of greeting us in a friendly manner with a pleasant welcome or "bon soir”, we got a public scolding for sitting at a 6-seat table. He instructed us that we would have to move to a 2-seat table inside, as there were NO 2-seat tables outside. I told him no, I wanted a 2-seat table outside, in which he refused to accommodate.

Insulted, we abruptly left; and ended up eating at DRY next door. I am truly grateful as it was a much better experience: more interesting menu, friendlier, and more inviting atmosphere. Interestingly, I could still see the table where we had previously sat ourselves. I watched that waiter sit only 4 people at the 6-seat table we were just at---if he would have just been considerate and served us, he would have 6 at the table, instead of just 4! Maybe need a little more manager presence here or just a lazy, rude waiter? I don't know...

Bottom line: Go to DRY next door and just skip this pathetic, rude...

Miserable. We booked for two at 8, place was buzzing and the views were lovely, a brilliant location overlooking the sea. However the service was a complete buzzkill and food was shallow. First thing, we ordered 1L of water for the table. Server comes over gives us 50cl - fine. We then order another bottle and ask the server to check that 1L hasn’t been put down on the bill and response we get is “Yeah, so?” repeated 3 times and he looked like he wanted to clobber our faces. It wasn’t that complicated. Also when we get our food server comes over to check and says “Are you ok” and walks away without time for us to give a response. Multiple times we also try to start ordering food and server walked away while we were ordering. Food was lacklustre. Portions were decent but I ordered pasta with prawns and only got 1 big prawn and 3 tiny little prawns. Ratio of pasta to prawn was probably 9:1. Salad my partner had was a kid portions size for 20€. No presentation and care seemed to be put in though.

Mr Sarcasm continued when we paid the bill. Didn’t care when we said we raised the issue of poor service, so we didn’t leave a tip the response was “Thank you from all the staff” and walking off.

It seems like they genuinely don’t really like tourists at this place, but what do...

First time at this place, we just ordered 1 dessert (crepe au chocolat), the and 1 Espresso Martini. The lady came with a bill saying something like, hmm let me count…bla-bla-bla… then she said ah it’s 25€. She seemed very nervous or like very stressful when she said that. Sorry we are good enough in mathematics you are not going to lie to us! Then we told her “please let us see the bill”. We found out that she charged us with another dessert,which is much more higher price. The lady of this restaurant took immediately the ticket and said sorry that was for the wrong table. This is unfaithfulness and unacceptable! You think the travellers are the monkeys so you can lie easy to us!!????!!!!???? I saw also others comments with the experience in this restaurant LOU BANTRY that he has experienced that they ordered seafood and the restaurant gave them Pork ! This restaurant does this like their common practice! You should avoid this place and pay super high attention to the bill that they give to you!!!!!

Honestly, the crepe was not fresh and we would say that was the worst crepe we had in our life. The espresso martini was serves in a glass of Scotch whisky, LOL, how this is unprofessional!
