I have never in my life experienced such terrible service and food!
We chose a table and waited for a waiter, who saw us but continued standing and staring. After a minute, I had to go up myself to ask for the menu.
Shortly after, the waiter asked what we wanted to drink, sparkling or still water. We asked for tap water. Some time later, he brought a bottle of sparkling water and had already poured it into our glasses. When I noticed it wasn’t what I asked for, I called the waiter and said I had ordered tap water. He responded, “We don’t have that.” So what does that mean? If I order white wine and get red instead, that’s fine too? Eventually, they took the water away, and suddenly tap water did appear.
We ordered a dish called “fish soup.” What we got was served in absolutely filthy tableware, stained both inside and out, with a dirty napkin under the bowl. Alongside the “soup” came some croutons, but they were more like stale bread with butter and some herbs on top, accompanied by cheese and mayonnaise. The soup itself looked like a watery broth with no sign of actual ingredients, no salt, no taste, just water with some seasoning. Saying I was shocked is an understatement.
We forced ourselves to chew on those croutons with the “broth,” and when we finished, we had to chase down a waiter to ask for the bill. And here comes the best part: the waiter who had served us never returned. A different one brought the bill—and SURPRISE! The sparkling water we hadn’t ordered was still listed on the check.
Apparently, the waiter thought it was acceptable to bring what he wanted just because “they didn’t have” what we asked for.
I truly don’t understand how this place has any positive reviews. They ruined our mood for the whole day. I absolutely do not recommend coming here. The food, service, and atmosphere are...
Read moreMy visit to this restaurant was nothing short of spectacular. My partner and I arrived for a late lunch on a quiet Tuesday afternoon, and the lack of crowds meant that we received unparalleled service and attention.
The culinary experience was nothing short of impeccable. We started with the escargot and ceviche as appetizers, both of which were nothing short of brilliant. For our main courses, we savored the whole sea bream, skillfully deboned before us, and the bavette steak, cooked to medium rare perfection - undoubtedly the finest steak I've ever had in France.
The service was exemplary, characterized by politeness, engagement, informativeness, and unwavering attentiveness throughout our meal.
Adding to the charm of our dining experience were the breathtaking views. We were seated right in front of the pier, allowing us to gaze out at the serene waters and boats passing by.
In total, our bill came to approximately €180 for the two of us, inclusive of our delectable starters, main courses, and a bottle of exquisite Provence wine.
Without a doubt, we have every intention of returning to this restaurant when we find ourselves in Villefranche-sur-Mer again. It's an experience we're eager to relive, from the exceptional cuisine to the impeccable service and picturesque views that make this place truly...
Read moreThis is evidently a nice restaurant. Our experience wasn't fantastic. After being seated and having our drinks order taken, we were told that all but one of the "signature" mains was unavailable. Apparently the chef had some difficulty and wasn't able to be there. In itself, this isn't a reason to complain; even chefs will sometimes experience personal difficulties. But what struck me as not okay was the fact that we were told about the menu limitations only after being seated and and the arrival of our drinks. It didn't feel at all comfortable at that point to decide to leave. It's hard to conclude that this wasn't the intention behind the timing of the information. It did make things difficult for us: my partner has dietary limitations and was intent on ordering one of two signature options -- but neither was available. So, she ended up having a starter and two side dishes.
I think there are better ways to treat customers. We had booked online; I think the restaurant should have sent an email to let us know of the situation as soon as it was known. Or, at a minimum, telling us on arrival, before getting us seated.
Our waiter was excellent, and my food was really enjoyable. Again, evidently a really appealing restaurant...
