Unfortunately, this is not my first disappointing encounter at Mamma Mia. I decided to give the restaurant a second chance this past weekend, as its atmosphere and location are truly wonderful. Sadly, the service once again left much to be desired. We visited as a group of six, ordering generously in both food and drinks. Over time, a few more friends joined us, bringing our group to around ten people, all of whom were also ordering. When I briefly left to collect a friend from the nearby tram station, I was surprised to find that upon my return, I was not allowed back to my own seat. Despite explaining that I had already been seated there, still had an open tab, and that our entire group was consuming, the security staff refused my re-entry in a manner that felt unnecessarily rude. In the end, a friend had to cover my drink, as I wasn’t even permitted to settle the bill myself. This was particularly puzzling given that other tables were unoccupied. One would expect a restaurant to welcome additional guests who are ordering and enjoying themselves. It is understandable to discourage non-paying guests, but in this case, everyone at our table was actively consuming. There seemed to be no willingness to find a reasonable solution, such as splitting the group across neighboring tables or starting new tabs. I can appreciate that serving larger groups may be challenging, but a proactive approach—such as requesting immediate payment upon serving drinks—would have avoided confusion. My group was already careful to organize payments clearly, so the server’s task was minimal. Ultimately, what stands out from both of my visits is not the inviting setting, but the unwelcoming and curt service. I truly hope this aspect improves for the sake of future guests, but unfortunately, I will not...
Read moreI had a meal at Blast across the street the day before having lunch at Mamma Mia and it didn’t look appealing to me. Then we decided to have lunch there the next day given the fact that the area is pretty vibrant and busy with people walking. Especially when live music is performed in there. First impression was that it is a busy place and servers might be extremely busy to pay any attention. As soon as we sat a server dropped the menus, then at an appropriate period of time, he came to check on us, took the order after answering our questions. Meanwhile people are coming like crazy and every staff member is running around, but in a controlled manner - pretty impressive -. Drinks were surved, and then the pizza arrived, it was the one with cheese, artichokes and eggs. TO D-I-E for, it was by the far one of the best pizzas I have ever had. Finished our meal then order two coffees plus the check. I just want to highlight the fact that although that place was crazy busy, our order and service were in a timely manner as we were the only guests in the restaurant. I was truly impressed.
I highly recommend my pizza lovers to pay a visit to this place, the hospitality and professionalism are as good...
Read moreI visited Mamma Mia 3 times in just over a week so obviously they are doing something right. The rating of 4 stars overall and 3 stars for Service needs explaining. I walk through Old town and the surrounding areas every day. I love the fresh orange juice in MM. I also love their Crevettes Tempura. The problem is that they shut off their fresh juice machine at noon exactly. And they don't open their kitchen until noon exactly. So I sit down at perhaps 11:40 and order my orange juice. And I am ready for another when I go to order food. But they won't serve another. I see this as poor service. The first time I visited I didn't know. The next 2 times I simply forgot and was too late by 3 mins each time and the answer is simply "no". You decide if the service mark down is unreasonable. The prawns are lovely. The staff are attentive and very nice. The location is perfect to sit in the shade and watch the...
