We were left a bit disappointed really. We've stayed at Nergresco in the past when Madame Augier was alive and thoroughly enjoyed it for the famous vibe that it's known for. We've had some wonderful meals in the outstanding 'Chantecler' restaurant in years gone by too. We're staying in a different part of town now but fancied revisiting something they offer and thought the beach restaurant looked fun. It certainly is laid out well and has stunning views.
My other half had seen the lobster sandwiches priced at €29 and €31. The pictures showed brioche buns bursting with meat and a huge lobster claw pride of place in the top of the sandwich. His "lobster Connecticut sandwich" (the most expensive of the sandwiches), had nothing of the sort. What's more, only the top half of the bun had any meat in it at all. He left disappointed.
I ordered the crispy chicken starter with the most expensive bowl of overcooked, soggy chips I've ever had... but that's not a bad thing as that's how I like them! Still, regardless of how high end a place is, €10 for a small bowl of chips. Really?
We were given the option of a couple of tables and made the mistake of choosing the one nearest the bar... and the kitchen... and the toilets! That was our problem but we've never heard a louder, more rowdy kitchen in our lives. Beloved used to work as a chef and even he was saying he'd never heard a racket like it. Honestly, it was like they were having group drum lessons using pots, pans, crockery and cutlery for the instruments. And the raised voices shouting to each other too. Jeepers, it was very loud indeed. This really does need to be addressed. Kutchens can be loud but this was on another level.
We did, though, enjoy the amuse bouche of a courgette veloute and the bread was lovely. Be careful if you order water. As usual for Nice, we were offered still and sparkling, both of which are bottled, both of which you pay for. Ask for a carafe as we did - by law in France, it's free.
€29 for crispy chicken starter €10 for a bowl of chips €31 for a half-filled lobster sandwich €28 for two 50cl glasses of beer €24 for two bowls of ice cream
The staff were friendly but could perhaps have been a little more attentive but the service generally was fine. It was very slow though both when we'd gone in to book a table the previous day and also when we arrived for the meal.
Really, we don't mind spending the money, but that time, for us, it fell well short of our previous Negresco experiences and...
Read moreI REALLY wanted to thoroughly enjoy my time here. But we waited over 2 hours for a kids meal… never received my nor my husband’s food and drinks and the hostess blamed us for being overcharged upon our departure. I actually wasn’t upset at the time but I feel like I still can’t give a stellar review because factually I never received my food (despite following up politely once an hour for 3 hours), I was over charged for our seats, and the hostess told me to be “more clear next time” instead of apologizing or simply saying nothing.
Some people are complaining about the high prices… I would’ve gladly paid to eat because the ambiance was enjoyable but alas they didn’t give us the chance.
I went to the server and ordered a kids box and bottle of water at 11:50 am. At 1 pm I asked a different server about our order from a different server; we received our water. We asked to order 2 glasses of wine and 2 meals. At 1:30 pm I followed up with the server about the kids box because my child was hungry— he apologized and verified that what we wanted and asked what we wanted to drink with the kids box. I said water. Evidently our original server was new. He insisted it was included and asked us repeatedly if we wanted something else because of the wait. I said, “ok, fine, I’ll take a Diet Coke.” At 2 pm I still hadn’t received our kids box much less the other items ordered. At 2:10 we were given a Diet Coke… and 5 minutes later I saw the server wandering around with a kids box and requested he give it to us. It was cold.
All in all, we never received our 2 lunches, 2 beverages, and it took 2 hours to receive our kids meal. We were then charged for the Diet Coke that i didn’t even want and first line seats even though i hadn’t requested them (i thought they were being nice because of the wait)… and when i mentioned this to the hostess she had the audacity to blame me for not being clearer.
I think the Negresco Beach Club has a lot of potential— however, I really do think you should put some effort into service.
UPDATE: returned in July 2023 with a much better server. Zero issues. Excellent service. I had no need to interact with front desk other than checking in so I can’t say whether they’ve improved. I updated the individual reviews accordingly but no clue which experience was...
Read moreI came to Negresco beach 3 times. The first one, me and my friend came together with intention to spend day on the beach. When we came to welcome desk, there were 3(!) workers but nobody gave any attention to us. We were waiting for 10(!!!) mins and I even double checked if we came to the right beach club because we expected 5 star hotel service which we get used to have in other fancy places. While we were waiting, the telephone rang and in front of our faces receptionist booked sunbed for the one who was on the call. Then finally they asked us what we want and when I asked for sunbed, they said the last was just booked by this call… I tried to explain that this is insane to ignore us for 10 mins and to book it by phone but it has appeared that this worker didn’t speak english well. Which is a nonsense for a beach club of 5 star hotel. In the end, I just asked for booking for another day because first experience was horrible but the place has a lot of great reviews so I wanted to give them the second chance. The second time was better. The waitress Alex (I hope I remember his name correctly) was super nice and it finally felt as something close to 5 star hotel service. However, the food was pretty basic and not much choice in the menu. But as I overall enjoyed my stay, I’ve decided to come for the third time. And the third one wasn’t as good as the second. The food was even worse and the sea was dirty. I don’t understand why they didn’t clean it, it could be done easily. Like in 100 meters after beach club, there is public beach with no rubbish in the sea, but you pay 200-300€ per day to stay in the beach with dirty water and feeling odd because of this. Overall given my 3 times experience, I’d say this is definitely not 5 star hotel experience mostly because of the food and some stuff. However, there are no other good beach clubs in the Nice and this one has really good facilities so it’s worthy to visit but don’t expect much and don’t...
