Our family of 5 dined at Le Siècle, a charming restaurant on the promenade, on March 26. We were enjoying a lovely evening until we noticed a group of men at the next table making fun of our son who has autism. He is 19 years old, dines out all the time, and is the perfect patron. However they must have noticed some mannerisms because they were constantly looking over and taunting him while jeering amongst themselves and making offensive hand and face gestures in his direction (the type of gestures reserved for mocking persons with disabilities). I had my back to this table but was able to observe everything in a mirror on the opposite wall. It was not subtle and others in the family soon picked up on it as well. The behaviour continued until they realized they were being filmed.
At first I couldn’t believe my own eyes and asked for a moment with the serving staff who were already aware of the situation based on their own direct observations. They verified what we saw.
On our way out I approached them and said “excuse me gentlemen, but I was watching you in that mirror and you should all be ashamed of yourselves”. They immediately denied wrong doing and said I was having a misunderstanding - they were making fun of us for a different reason. Now how could they declare a misunderstanding when all I said was that they should be ashamed? I did not mention a word about making fun of anyone or targeting my son so their poor attempt at a cover up actually proved their intentions. In 19 years travelling through many different countries with our son and at home in North America we’ve never experienced anything like this. It really put a damper on our last night in the Cote D’Azur.
I would like to acknowledge the restaurant team who shared in condemning this behaviour and were visibly disgusted about it. We thank you for supporting us. And the food and ambience here...
Read moreI had the burratta starter where I asked for a substitute to the ham, perhaps with salmon or tuna since those items are offered with other dishes on the menu. The waiter said “we don’t have salmon”, and offered to guidance. So, I asked without ham, and what do you know…the dish shows up with ham. He did apologize for that oversight though.
I understand substitutions sometimes can’t be done , but would’ve appreciated more engagement and friendliness.
I also ordered the duck with figs. It was decent but not great. I’ve had lots of duck in France, and this one was forgettable.
The service was poor from the bald waiter (sorry don’t know his name). To be fair, some of the other staff seemed more engaging and friendlier.
I also found the menu overpriced. Nicose salad 26 euros! Some of the specialty dishes that other reviewers are raving about are wildly overpriced IMO.
I’d skip and go elsewhere. I’ve dined in many restos in Nice and there are...

I watched in disbelief as my food was delivered to the wrong table right in front of me. When I pointed this out, the waiter defensively denied it ever happened. Despite explicitly asking for water and bread, I didn’t receive either until I had finished my meal. When I asked for water again, the waiter condescendedly told me to “calm down,” as if he were my teacher and I were a disobedient eight-year-old. After we paid, the same waiter asked if I enjoyed my meal, then walked away just as I began to respond with a hesitant “Well, umm…”
I suggest that Hotel West End, with its 170+ years of history, reevaluate the service quality at this restaurant before it further tarnishes your brand's reputation.
Overall, the service was a disaster and did not match the otherwise decent food and the impressively big and...
