Bistro S — Restaurant in Paris

Friends had recommended the place to us and we were looking forward to a nice evening but were quite disappointed with the whole experience. I’m pescatarian and my partner vegetarian, which we had specified when we made the reservation. The restaurant called me the day of the reservation to confirm the booking but did not mention that this would be a issue. Even though they were aware of this they clearly had not prepared for it and we were made to feel like we were causing a problem. We were told we would not be able to have the tasting menu and would get just three courses. That’s fine, but no effort was made. The main dish (seared yellow fin on a mushroom risotto) was delicious! But the vegetarian option was basically a second scoop of risotto without the fish. Most good restaurants these days either have a vegetarian option or are able to adjust and make something. It’s not unusual for people to be vegetarian these days. I get that for a small restaurant this might be more difficult, but it was more the fact that we were made to feel like problem guests and treated like the...

TLDR: fixed menu and absolutely worth every bite and dollar! Owner and staff were all incredible. We will be back next time we are in Paris!

Divine! This off the beaten path restaurant served a fixed menu French offering.

We started with a cauliflower soup that was silky smooth. Dressed with a light foam, it was a delicious first course.

The second course was fresh charred hamachi, radish, and strawberry. Light, savory, slightly sweet and a touch of acid. Yum!

For our third, we had a unique take on "surf and turf" with abalone and chicken in a lightly browned, flaky pastry shell, with a creamy chicken jus.

The fourth was the best damn duck I've ever had. Rare, yet crispy with well rendered fat. The smear of caramelized squash and jus, added the salt and sweet needed to round out the dish.

And finally, the chocolate grenache with a sprinkle of salt. As I said already, divine.

We will be back!

the server was nice and friendly, interior was so beautiful and the food was delicious.

it just annoyed me a bit when they put some loud music which doesn’t go with the ambiance of the restaurant, but still fine 🥹 i can understand it since it’s my personal preference.

food was so delicious, especially the risotto with mushrooms! obviously delicious for other steps of food too. they were very harmonious in terms of using different ingredients, and also full of flavor. i had very satisfying experience overall.

we were a bit sad that we weren’t even close to “full” after meal; but i guess they concentrate more on quality over quantity for this kind of fine dining.
