We were really excited to try this place but it fell a little short of our expectations in terms of a gastronomic experience…we had their special set menu as it was Christmas Eve. Everything was presented well, but it was the flavours that fell flat for us. Especially for the price, although they are considerably reasonable, we didn’t think it was worth what we had.
We thought twice about posting an honest review because they people there were genuinely nice and the chef was friendly too, and we wish we gave this review in person.
The foie gras gyoza was an interesting combination and was well done. The maki, however, looked better than it tasted…it was meant to be a marinated salmon in the middle, which they probably did but it tasted like it was seasoned with salt - overall, it tasted like an ordinary maki.
The scallops were probably the best dish that was done well. The chicken done in two ways, on the other hand, wasn’t that great. They probably sous vided it before searing so it was moist and perfectly cooked, but it was under seasoned - a touch of salt could have helped the flavours of the mushrooms didn’t come through. Half of the dish ended up a little bland.
Lastly, the sponge of the log cake was dry and wasn’t really saved by the tangy fruit that packed a punch of sourness. It was held together by chocolate creme that was probably the best part of the cake. It was a pity that they didn’t take the chance to do something better with the dessert. The petit fours were also a little disappointing as it was nothing special.
Overall, we would still recommend it if you’re looking for a new place to try out in Paris, and perhaps their other dishes would live up to the other...
Read moreIt is hard to give an accurate star rating as aspects of my experience here were very good. Firstly, the staff were amazing. The host and the chef gave descriptions on each course and were very friendly and polite. Secondly, the presentation of the food was impressive. Unfortunately, the downfall of everything was the flavour. We had 6 courses total, 5 of which had minimal flavour. The third course which consisted of fish & pureed sweet potatoes was excellent. The wine pairing was also not great. The first wine was lovely and light while the second and third were not very nice at all. I hate to leave a negative review as some of the experience was amazing here, but considering the bill was nearly 200 euros it was a bit of a kick in the teeth as the quality of flavour throughout the dinner was just not great at all, not sure if it was just an off night. We were out for my fiancé's 30th birthday and at the end the team did bring over a surprise birthday plate with some cake which was lovely. Overall, I get the impression that the staff here really care about the customer but on the night the price just didn't match the food. I would rather have amazing flavours and less presentation if it came down to it. In hindsight I maybe should have said something at the time but didn't want to cause a fuss. Staff, atmosphere, presentation & effort - great. Flavour and price on this occasion -...
Read moreVisit on lunch 28 Sep, our first meal upon arriving in Paris.
Uchiyama San is such a friendly & talented chef. He brings the main course to our table by himself, chat with us, and talk to us with his big smell.
The food is amazing, and you can easily feel it's delicacy. Pumpkin soup is the most dense & richiest one I have ever tried in life. The dessert seasome pudding is so pure with its fragrance balanced by the fruit / sorbet on top of it.
As a Taiwanese who also do cooking on Asian food from time to time. I can highly recommend Kinzo (means color gold, taken from the name of chef's grandfather, if I understood correctly). The food has its soul and is not on the same level with other 20-30 eur 2/3 course lunch set n Paris.
I feel glad that I gave Kinzo a try. It enriches my family's trip in Paris....
