On our quest for a French food adventure, we discovered a quaint, unpretentious corner restaurant with its roots firmly planted in the flavors and ingredients of Marseille. Little did we know we were about to embark on a delightful French culinary experience that would remain etched in our memories.
As we settled in, Ilan, our charming waiter, greeted us with a bottle of exquisite champagne and smoked almonds. These tantalizing starters were so divine that the establishment deserves a 5-star rating for that alone – no exaggeration!
Our party of four food enthusiasts shared three entrées before diving into the main courses. The star of the show was the 10-hour confit leg of lamb, a dish so inspiring that it could have had its own theme song. Paired with the complementary garlic oil, every bite was a masterful symphony of flavor.
As the evening progressed, we enjoyed another bottle of wine and four shots of Ricard – touted as the "true pastis from Marseille" and the perfect liquid homage to the city that inspired the menu. The staff's warmth and friendliness were contagious, and we found ourselves singing songs and swapping life stories as though we were old friends.
The cherry on top of this delightful evening was when the owner joined our impromptu chorus, serenading us with a heartfelt rendition of "Champs-Élysées." It was a moment of pure joie de vivre, as the entire restaurant seemed to hum with the vibrant energy of a Parisian street.
Our feast of three entrées, four main courses, two bottles of libations, and four shots of Ricard culminated in a bill of €317 – a more than reasonable price for the high-quality, authentic Marseille cuisine we had the pleasure of savoring. In a nutshell, this humble gem of a restaurant served up an unforgettable evening of laughter, camaraderie, and tantalizing French fare that left our hearts full and our taste buds singing "La...
Read moreWe attend a trade show every September in Paris and each time we return to dine at Bistrot Rougemont. Never been disappointed with the food, service or atmosphere. When the 12 hour beef chuck is on the menu it’s absolutely amazing. It’s on a bed of green lentils which I was worried about the first time I tried it. I was converted. The Octopus on a bed of chickpeas is tender and flavourful. The white truffle ravioli in a white wine cream sauce is light with a subtle depth of flavour. The pasta is made fresh everyday and you can tell. The French toast (there is a posh French name for this that I can’t remember) with Chantilly cream is amazing but if the floating islands is on the desert menu this is a must! The Crème Anglais is spectacular! The staff have always been knowledgeable about their menu. Listen to their recommendations. They know what they’re...
Read moreWe had an amazing dining experience at Bistrot Rougemont. As former servers in the industry, we know a good restaurant when we experience one.
The food was incredible. In every dish, the flavours were expertly balanced I was particularly impressed with the creativity and use of fresh, high-quality ingredients. The owner has his own farm in Normandy (I believe) where he brings in seasonal ingredients into the restaurant.
The wine list was extensive, and the owner's guidance in selecting the perfect pairing for our meal was spot-on.
The service was charming. It seemed as though they may have been understaffed the night we went (perhaps someone was sick), but the owner and his family made up for it with humour and friendliness.
