I've been a member of the club for approximately six months now, previously having been a member at CMG before its closure. Currently, I use the facility jointly with Palais Royal. While the club is generally satisfactory, there are notable differences compared to Palais Royal. It appears that there is a stronger emphasis on cost-cutting at this club, which can negatively impact the overall experience for users. Let me elaborate:
Firstly, there's a consistent issue with overcrowding in the Mills Room downstairs. The primary concern in that room is the lack of real air conditioning. While I understand that energy costs have risen, it's worth mentioning that this problem doesn't exist at Palais Royal. The sometimes excessive number of people in the room exacerbates the issue, especially on hot days when the temperature difference between that room and the one with weights and stationary bikes becomes quite ridiculous.
Another concern is the refusal to provide heavier weights for the Mills area, citing the reason that it may damage the floor !! Frankly, this explanation seems questionable. It appears that using lighter weights may be a cost-saving measure to reduce maintenance expenses, but it limits the workout options available to members.
Lastly, I've noticed that during Mills sessions, most of the lighting is switched off. This practice is unusual, and as far as I know, your club is the only one that does it. It significantly impacts the overall experience, especially considering the presence of mirrors in the room. If you want to save some money might as well sell the mirrors in that case. Once again, I suspect this decision may be driven by a desire to reduce operating costs.
My suggestion is for the club to take inspiration from Palais Royal, which seems to prioritize a better overall experience for...
Read moreI was a member here for a year, and at first it was great. Then it slowly got worse. I've let my membership lapse, though I hope to come back when/if it improves again, because the people that go are great and the instructors have, in the past, been amazing.
Issues: Many of the best instructors, who were really top and really made the experience, have left due to better treatment and pay elsewhere. I presume the ones that are still there won't be for long. Frequently, "scheduled" instructors don't show up for classes, leaving us all waiting, having gone there for no reason (not the fault of the instructors, but of management for not scheduling properly). The class schedule has become less varied, with fewer classes, though the ones that remain are overfilled to the point there isn't enough equipment. No morning classes and no classes after about 12 on weekends. The booking system often means you have to be first, at about 2am, or you won't get in. The ventilation system has been fully broken for months, to the point the floor and walls get properly wet and the air is thick. Other parts of the facilities break frequently (there is always a bucket somewhere catching a new leak). The actual management is never there, and they leave the poor daily staff to deal with the mounting complaints from members. In a year of going 5 times a week, I saw the actual manager just once, on a day where they held some launch event - where they brought in a bunch of outside people for some reason, making the classes even more full and taking a bunch of photos that don't reflect the current reality of the gym. Oh, and they're still using the images and photos of departed instructors in their ads (we wish Lucas and Martin were still there but...
Read moreThey never follow through on promises to resolve issues and even send debt collectors at you after you've canceled your membership. Last year I wrote a review about how I was assaulted by the gym’s security guard for not having a towel. He got in my face and pushed me off the exercise bike when the argument got heated. I also wrote that the manager didn’t show one ounce of sympathy or willingness to do anything about this horrific experience. Ultimately the manager did try to make things right: he called me and said I would be comped a couple months’ membership extension since I felt legitimately unsafe to go back, but in the end this was all a farce as when I followed up several times for confirmation of this extension I was just led on with deceiving messages and the extension was never provided. Now he's changed his number and is never available when I call or visit the gym. And good luck trying to get a response from Easygym corporate through their website complaint system which apparently is also just fake. Worst part is that even though we canceled our memberships long ago they've now sent debt collectors after us asking for several months of unpaid membership fees and there's no one available to sort out the issue! They even told me I'd have to make my case to the debt collectors directly; shameless behavior when they were the cause of the deceptive and predatory business practices in the first place, now I have to waste my own time sorting...
