Ok honestly, I don’t get the hype around Bouillon Pigalle! We got recommended this place so many times and it was so mid.
We arrived at 9:30 (the time our reservation was) and stood in a line out the door which we were surprised to find even though we had reserved online beforehand which made no difference to them. We got steated by 10:30 and the heat from the sheer amount of people sitting inside and lack of oxygen to breathe made us genuinely consider turning around and leaving multiple times but the kids were too hungry! It was off putting how many people were coming out of the restaurant drenched in sweat and I am not exaggerating it smelled like hot air and sweat in the place… It was the single most unappetizing sight and smell combination I’ve ever experienced in a restaurant.
When we eventually got seated we were crammed as everybody else was between tiny tables with no room to even move my elbows between the people sat next to our table and where the next table was. All the tables were stuck together to make one long table with tiny cracks in between where people would try to squeeze through.
To be fair, the reason we stayed was the food because surely there was no way all these people were there for bad food and the prices were very reasonable for what it was. We ordered the Escargot in parsley butter, which was not cooked properly and you can tell by how tough the snails were to get out of the shell and how chewy they were. We also had the Chicken escalope with mashed potatoes kind of underwhelming to be honest, but good for a kids meal. The Beef Bourguignon pasta was honestly the highlight of the night, everyone was stealing bites out of my plate. We also had the Steak with fries and pepper sauce which even though was medium rare, was an extremely tough cut of meat, SUPER rubbery, but the pepper sauce was delicious though. Lastly, the salmon and spinach pie with beurre blanc, I can’t speak on this because I didn’t even try it but my sister said it was good but not remarkable.
Overall, I didn’t expect this to be a negative review because we did clear our plates in the end but the overall experience and discomfort wasn’t worth paying a...
Read moreWhat is a bouillon? Bouillon means broth in French, but it's also a concept of restaurant. You didn't know that? Me neither! 😅 Until a few weeks ago, when I walked by Bouillon Pigalle. In fact, even after eating there, I had no clue that was a thing. But apparently, it's a concept that's been resurging in France for the last few years: a spacious restaurant that serves traditional food (and, in particular, broth) at an affordable price. 😋 We got lucky that day cause we had no clue about what to eat (or where) and my son was not in a good mood. But when he got his platter of snails, his mood changed... and it improved even more when he got a second platter (that he ate!) after he complained about 1 (yes, 1 😅) snail being stuck in its shell to the server who, by the way, was very nice, professional yet quite laid-back. I wish I could still be a kid, people are always nice to kids. 😇 We had simple dishes (steak and fries , pâté, eggs mayo, etc.) but they were all well executed. And for such a price, nowadays, in a touristy area in Paris, you can't reasonably ask for more. 👏 We had a 3-course meal each and paid €60 each. 🥳 Not to mention that bread was free (and good) and coffee was... €1! 👍 Some of my friends will disagree, but if I can only choose 1 restaurant between a Michelin star and this bouillon, I'll pick this one, no hesitation. Why? Cause at this bouillon, I know I can relax: the food will be good and I know I will be able to afford anything I want on the menu. I can't get this peace of mind at a Michelin star, not even about the taste. I loved this place and I wish there were more places like this everywhere. 🙏 . . . Quality & taste: 9/10 Quantities: 10/10 Atmosphere: 8/10 Originality: 7/10 Ratio price / quality: 10/10 Service: 10/10 How I felt...
Read moreHad a really bad experience, unfortunately. I have been to Bouillon République and it was a great experience, so I wanted to take a friend that is visiting Paris, to Bouillon Pigalle since it’s so popular, but we had a horrible experience. Firstly, it took them very long to come take our order, the waitress was a lovely guy though and apologised for that. Bouillon is a very busy restaurant, so you try to understand and be chill when this happens. But then, we only got one starter even though we asked for two. We waited quite a long time, finished the first one and then asked if the second plate was coming at all…. When you are two at the table, you want to eat together. I waited for a long time for the starter of my friend to arrive, till the point where she was bored and just told me to eat and not wait for her anymore. That’s just not pleasant at all. After that they wouldn’t bring our main, and suddenly, one of the waiters brought the bill to our table even though we hadn’t even had the main yet. So we asked for the main and they brought us (there was more than 20min wait in between these situations), we asked for two stakes with fries, medium cooked. But what we got was basically uncooked :/ So all that just ruined the experience, we were very excited to try the desert because they were looking amazing, but after that we just wanted to run from the place. After all that happening we felt like the waitress were a bit annoyed at us since we weren’t so happy, and for complaining, so we felt even more uncomfortable. So yeah, unfortunately, I really do not recommend this place. My experience at Bouillon République was so good, that I really want to stick...
