Chez Hélène — Restaurant in Paris

I feel very uncomfortable about the service. I sat in and ordered a coffee there. I wanted to charge my phone there for minutes but the host was telling me that the electricity is expensive and I shouldn’t charge it for a long time. I’ve never heard that in a coffee/tea shop, which seems pretty inappropriate when it comes to a service. The host looks friendly when she was talking to her friends and the place is lovely, but in terms of service it’s not a normal attitude to me, to a client at all. I felt discriminated. The owner asked us to change tables several times to fit in more customers. She seemed really annoyed that some of us only drank coffee, and eventually we were asked to leave only after about 40 mins so that she could accommodate 2 people (it was more than six of us, many of whom got desserts). Si je pouvais attribuer six étoiles, je le ferais sans hésiter. Chez Hélène fait partie de ces lieux rares que l’on voudrait égoïstement m garder secrets, tout en ayant la conviction qu’ils mériteraient une reconnaissance bien plus vaste. Lorsqu’un endroit parvient à incarner ce paradoxe, celui du refuge intime de quartier et de l’adresse qu’on rêve de faire découvrir, c’est qu’il a déjà conquis quelque chose d’essentiel.

L’accueil est chaleureux : Hélène et son équipe font preuve d’une bienveillance sincère, presque familiale, qui redonne foi en la simplicité du lien humain. Les prix sont honnêtes, et la qualité des plats (nous avons opté pour la formule brunch) est excellente. Nous reviendrons, assurément, et nous n’aurons de cesse de recommander...
