Stayed here for three nights in a private Triple Room with friends on holiday and had a great time. Here were the best things about our stay:||||- Considering how little we paid it was very clean and we felt very safe! Our door locked easily and the bedsheets, towels etc were clean (just a bit worn, which is fine!)||||- Although the location isn’t central, it’s right by a Metro station so it’s easy to get to all the main tourist sites in Paris if that’s what you’re there for. Also, Montmartre and Sacre Couer are within walking distance and both are well worth experiencing :) There’s also a great café and a lovely bar just down the road so if you want to grab brunch or a drink without straying too far you have options. ||||- Staff were nice and approachable and all were able to speak English with us - which was very helpful and not at all taken for granted as our French is far from perfect!||||- Soap and towels were provided for us (we’d brought our own but this was still nice) and there was even a hairdryer in the bathroom! In general the room felt well supplied (again, considering how little we paid to stay there). ||||However, here are a few things to bear in mind/words of advice if you do decide to stay here: ||||- Our room was on the sixth floor and there are a LOT of stairs! Didn’t really bother us much (and Montmartre is very hilly anyway so you get used to it) but as there’s no lift this probably isn’t a good hostel to come to if you have any sort of mobility issues.||||- You have to hand your key into reception every time you leave your room unoccupied and then collect it every time you return. Whilst this wasn’t really an issue for us as the desk was always well-staffed it might be a minor inconvenience to bear in mind if you plan on running in and out a lot, partying/clubbing at night etc||||- Our toilet and shower/sink were in two separate rooms. I don’t know if this is the norm in France or something and it wasn’t a problem for us but it was a little weird having to wait to wash your hands after using the toilet because your friend was in the shower! Also, the shower ran for very short periods (you had to keep pressing it) and the toilet was tiny (not really issues for us as we are not fussy).||||- There’s no working air conditioning so it gets very hot during warm weather. We’re British so are used to having to deal without AC in the heat but for those visiting during heatwaves / from countries where AC is the norm it may be worth knowing.||||All of that said, this was a ‘cheap and cheerful’ place to stay and we would definitely consider staying here again if we returned to Paris (or recommending it to others)! Thank you for helping us to have a...

Read moreI understand that hostels are designed for the casual young traveler in mind, but this one stood out as a family destination as well. We found it to be a bit rough for a family.
A few nice things... -Staff is very friendly and accommodating, especially the young man in the evening hours. He understood our family situation and was more than willing to assist anytime we needed anything. -Historic setting. The building is clearly an old structure, which was nice to see some of the history built into the atmosphere. -Location. The area is near several uses of transit, but we found ourselves calling an Uber 95% of the time, as that is the most economical for a family of 4 if you're there for a short time. This is not a touristy area, which we liked. Several cafes, bakeries, grocery, and gift shops within a short walk. Try the scone and raspberry jam at the cafe nextdoor...amazing! -Safety. We felt very safe here. The hotel is next to a school and there are lockers in the lobby for any valuables.
As for a few things we didn't prefer... -Accommodations. For a family, this wasn't the ideal place. The room was small and the layout wasn't ideal. Once we arrived, we found that the room we chose didn't come with towels, soap, or shampoo. This was disappointing to have to spend EU2.50 per towel...per day. -Breakfast. Maybe we're used to an American breakfast, but this breakfast had bread...bread...and them some bread. Although tasty, we could have used some fruit, yogurt, or even some milk. $6 for bread per person (children are free) is a little much. -Location. Although I enjoyed being a bit away from the city, getting there is at least a 15 minute taxi ride. Also, you're next to an elementary school, so it can get VERY noisy first thing in the morning. -Steps. The circular staircase is nice...until you have 6 bags of luggage. Again, the 20 year old kid would do just fine, but we were happy to be on the 2nd floor. There is no elevator or lift.
I'm sure there are things I missed in this review. We enjoyed our stay, but will choose a hotel next time...for roughly the same...
