Really disappointing experience at Chez Joy. The pho was watered down, and the portion size was so small we had to double check if it was actually the large. Iâve had pho in many different countries, and this one would be mediocre at bestâand thatâs being generous.
What really bothered me was how misleading the service was. The female server recommended the tom yum soup and enthusiastically told me she could give me some noodles to make it more like a meal. She said it so casually and kindly that it sounded like a thoughtful gesture, as if she was doing me a favourânot something Iâd be charged for. I even mentioned that I don't usually eat noodles because of a health condition, which was the reason I didnât order the pho in the first place. I agreed to take just a tiny amount.
There was no mention of an extra charge, and when the bill came and I asked about it, she just said ânoodlesâ and walked away. I was charged for what looked like 10 strands of noodles. It felt sneaky and dishonest.
To make things worse, the bean sprouts served with the pho were wilted and rotting at the ends. I was honestly surprised other diners were eating themâ probably unfamiliar with what fresh sprouts look like. To be fair, most people around us were ordering chicken and rice, not pho, which might explain the higher rating.
Between the deceptive upsell, low-quality ingredients, and watered-down pho, I wouldnât return. Paris has far better and more authentic Vietnamese...
