Douieb — Restaurant in Paris

Been there twice. The staff and owners are always very friendly. Unfortunately, the food is disappointing for the price paid. Not very expensive, of course, but still. The sandwich bread is a roll from the local supermarket (or so it seems) of white and unsavory bread. The sandwich tuna is fresh but overall very dry. The olives in there still have their kernels. Also, the couscous is ok but for 18 euros this is expensive considering this is a local fast food. You can get way more for your buck in other ethnic restaurant elsewhere in Paris than you get here. Last but not least the shabbath traditional bred (Halla) was quite dry inside and not very tasty (and had been frozen - which was disclosed). Again the staff is super friendly and you feel home, but the food is not on par with the prices, which are definitely in the higher end...

Il y a pas mal de bons restaurants cashers dans le coin (je pense par exemple au Beverly, passage du Caire, et d'autes). Mais Douieb, reste Douieb.

Un exemple, rien qu'aujourd'hui.

Le contexte: au sortir du dé-confinement, il faut qu'on soutienne aussi les restaurateurs qui ont beaucoup soufferts, donc on va dire qu'on n'est pas très exigeants. Et a priori ça tombe bien: je souhaitais un burger vegan, et ils n'en avaient pas. Des buns ? non plus.

"On n'a pas encore reçus toute la marchandise mais ça devrait arriver" Bon. Va pour le hamburger classique. Ah? on m'offre la boisson en compensation ? 1er point gagné.

A peine ai je eu le temps de m'installer, de profiter des kemias a volonté (salade cuite, navets, olives noires, pommes de terres harissa...) avec leur très bon pain italien, que voici mon plat était déjà prêt. Frites légères. Hamburger dans la moyenne. Oeuf au plat parfait.

Mais à ce moment là, un des patrons regarde mon plat et décrète: "Mais ça va pas ! ils sont trop petits ces hamburgers ! Je vous en grille un deuxième ?" -"euh oui ?"

Et 5 mn après j'avais un double hamburger pour le prix d'un. Sans rien avoir eu à demander. 2eme bon point.

Et avant de partir le patron me regarde et me dit, "oui c'est mieux comme ça, d'ailleurs ça y est maintenant avec ces hamburgers, on en mettra deux d'office, ça sera meilleur pour tout le monde"...

Alors là...

Bref, c’était bien, c'était bon....

למסעדה הזאת הגענו שלוש פעמים במרוצת השנים האחרונות במהלכם של שלושה ביקורים תיירותיים בעיר הגדולה, ומכולם יצאנו די מרוצים. מציעים שם אוכל ביתי - מסורתי נהדר, ובעזרת אותו צוות ותיק עם השירות הלבבי; מהמארח/מלצר המשופם שמתרוצץ בין מעלי השאלות ומבקשי ההזמנות ועד לבעלים על המזנון והאשה על הקופה והעט המחשב... בליבו של השיק הפריזאי המתוקתק, אווירת מסעדה בטעם של פעם? כן, יש חיה יפה כזאת. המקום נקי ומריח טוב, אך פחות מעוצב ביחס לסביבה הקרובה. ואולי טוב שכך. כי מה רע בקצת עממיות בתוך עגל הזהב הענק כפי שעוטף אותה בקור מתכתי ומפורזל מידי...

והמנה שמחזירה אותנו לשם שוב ושוב היא מנת הקוסקוס העשירה (Couscous maison) שמוגשת לצד קציצה רכה, נתח בשר בקר נימוח ומרק ירקות משודך, כשהכל מהביל ועשיר בטעמים. אין בית יותר ממנה...

גם השניצל בסנדוויץ' שארזנו לאכילה מאוחרת היה בסדר גמור. פריך, טעים ומשביע. לא פישל על אף מקומו הצנוע במדף של המנות הפשוטות.

להמשך הדרך אורזים מספר קציצות העונות לשם; Banatage au thon רכות ומתובלות מכל טוב, גם הלימון מוסיף המון... בפעם האחרונה שקניתי אותן לרגע שכחתי את השם המסורתי שלהן כשבטעות כיניתי אותן בשם "les boules", טעות גדולה שעלתה לי בתגובות ציניות במיוחד מצד בעל הבית, ולצד הומור כמובן. אבל המסר אכן נקלט - בלי שיעורי בית מקדימים התגובה ההולמת לא תאחר לבוא, ומה לעשות שהעולם הוא כמו כדור, הוא עגול והוא מסתובב :) מאידך, לזכותן יאמר, כי לאחרונה לפחות שתיים מהן אף זכו לעלות על מטוס ומשם על צלחת אי שם בארץ הקודש :)
