A local gem? More like a local gym… for my jaw. I found this place on YouTube — apparently a hidden gem loved by locals in Paris. Naturally, I had high hopes. Unfortunately, it turned out to be more meh than magnifique. Let’s start with the good news: the beef tartare. It was actually amazing. Full of flavor, perfectly seasoned, and everything complemented each other like a well-rehearsed French jazz band. I’d honestly come back just for that. Then came the main dish — the steak of the day (rump steak). Or as I like to call it now: “The Great Chew Challenge of Paris.” I spent several minutes battling each bite like I was auditioning for a jawline workout video. It was tough, not juicy at all, and kind of stole the joy out of the whole experience. The fries were… fine. Nothing wrong, nothing special. Just there, existing. Sadly, this place didn’t live up to the hype. Maybe I caught it on an off day, but based on my experience, I wouldn’t recommend it. Unless, of course, you’re looking to tone your facial muscles

This place is quite good — a bit pricey, but I can understand why. We ordered the meat for two, and the flavor was excellent. It’s true that it had quite a bit of tendon and fat, but I guess that’s part of the cut. The potatoes, however, were disappointing. The fries were very average, lacking flavor, and the other potato side wasn’t worth it — bland and with barely any real potato taste. The beef tartare starter was amazing — I highly recommend it and honestly would have ordered two! The dessert was a total miss… we got the chocolate one, and it was way too salty — even spicy. We didn’t really get the concept, but the taste was just not pleasant at all. Such a shame to end the meal on that note. I also didn’t love the atmosphere. The tables were way too small, the space felt very dark and it was hard to see anything. When we arrived it was uncomfortably hot with a bad smell, and then when they turned on the air conditioning it actually got too cold.

Bien Élevé has a cute and quaint vibe, and the ambiance initially set the stage for what we hoped would be a great meal. Unfortunately, the experience didn’t live up to expectations. We ordered steak and frites; one ribeye and one of their lower priced cuts. We paid around $180 for the two meals. It’s worth noting that several cuts are priced for two people, which wasn’t clearly communicated. Maybe there was a breakdown in communication due to the language barrier or maybe it was me not being clear; Despite asking for a single portion, we were charged the full amount. The ribeye looked promising but was overcooked around the edges, forcing me to trim off quite a bit just to enjoy the medium portions. The fries were dry and tough, and the sauces didn’t do much to elevate the flavor. While the staff were polite and the setting pleasant, the food was underwhelming and overpriced. For the quality we received, the value simply wasn’t there.

First, I’d like to thank the incredible staff they have in the restaurant. The food and service are great. Unfortunately, I cannot say the same about who I think is the owner and/or manager, and the manners he has, are quite surprising, since he seems to forget he is in the hospitality industry. Ironically, he’s the one who needs the training but his employees in that matter.

On my second visit to the restaurant, I was waiting at the main entrance, since nobody approached, I proceeded to sit myself (I’m not French and my little experience in France is that this is common behavior that I have experienced in other restaurants).

The owner immediately noticed this and proceeded to “ask” me in a disrespectful and ironic way: “Can I help you?”. I answered back and said that “I wanted to get a table”. He then started arguing saying that “I needed to get close to the counter and ask for it” (step that wasn’t necessary on my first visit, nor I was told about it).

I told him that “I was sorry about it”, words that apparently weren’t enough. He kept complaining about my action, and proceeded to ask “If he was getting to my home in the same manner ?” (Comparison that it’s absolutely ridiculous for many reasons I’m not going to list here).

I said “OK, I’m sorry” now in a more energetic way and that was it. He pointed some tables I could sit in, and after that everything went better.

Again excellent service from the staff(other than him), food it’s great but his attitude leaves much to be desired, specially on a restaurant where people from all over the world, with different manners and customs come to visit.

I’m leaving 2 starts for that reason, because despite of great food and awesome staff, his attitude it’s the main factor that ruins...

Disappointing.

Starters were okay. My son had Beef tartare which seemed like a generous portion - it was identical to my tartare as a main, just smaller. In hindsight, I would have ordered the tartare as an appetizer and something else for the main.

For mains, my wife ordered medium well beef of the day. There were some parts that were medium rare, which I tried, and I found it quite tough and nothing special about the taste. My beef tartare was good and I liked the 2 sauces. It was only my second time having tartare and found it more course than the first place I had it although the bigger chunks were noticeably more firm but the taste I think was similar.

For desert, my wife had a chocolate mousse and we believe this is what upset her stomach. After I had some to taste, I felt a gurgling in my stomach but I thought it was just me. We figured it was something in her dessert as she had to spend a little time in a certain room when we got back to our hotel.

As for service, the waiter was very accommodating but it slowed down quite a bit after we finished the main course. The waiter was pleasant but wasn't as attentive or didn't come by as he did earlier. I even had to get up to ask for the bill.

We found out about the restaurant on a YouTube video. I'll have to look for the video to maybe...
