We came in Jeanne-Aimée as a group of 4 on a Tuesday evening, 7:30 pm right when it opened. We were very excited about our food, and our server hyped us up for their specials that night- hare, because the hunting season just started. We said yes- big mistake. The night started out wobbly, the amouse bouche was a board of smoked fish which was way too fishy, but it’s ok, just a matter of taste. Then we got some decent dishes like oyster, and some not so decent dishes like another fish that was again too fishy. When we finally got the hare, all four of us were extremely disappointed. It was a dark brown cake that smelled like blood from a mile away. It was wild hare that was extremely gamy, paired with foie gras and chocolate ganache, just heavy on heavy on heavy. Three out of four of us didn’t finish our food, I only took one bite and pushed it away. I almost gagged. We thought maybe because we’re not French we weren’t used to the flavor, but no, the French couple next to us also didn’t finish that hare dish and berated the server for it. When the server took our virtually untouched food away, she didn’t even ask how the food was. At this point, the level of service has significantly dropped. No one had time to check on us, and our server who originally was hyping us up no longer had the energy to be nice anymore. I wouldn’t have cared, except I had asked for the check three times over 40 minutes, and the time was already midnight (remember we started “early” at 7:30?!). Finally they brought us the credit card machine when I was so pissed I had everyone get up and walked towards the door. We thought ok, dinner in Paris lasts a long time, maybe I’m just uncultured. Again no, we went to another restaurant the following night at 7:30 pm again and ended at a reasonable 10:30pm. Anyways, for the price I paid and the mediocre fine dining experience I had, I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. You have better...
Read moreWhat an amateurish operation! I don't know where all those people giving J-A good reviews went, but it wasn't here. After written and verbal information saying I had a nut allergy, they served me peanuts that they had said were easy to eliminate from the entree. The main course was an overcooked, bland chicken breast. No beauty, no grace, no flavor. We were seated in essentially a front vestibule, very ugly, while a very large restaurant was available within. They ultimately felt they had mistreated us a bit, and moved us inside after other diners had left, saying something like they don't usually let Americans or English back there. A poor joke? No humor without truth... The wine steward gave us eau de vie to continue to make up to us, while making suggestive comments. To top it off, they gave us someone else's more expensive bill, which we did not...
Read moreWhat a deceiving dining space. From the outside the restaurant is unassuming and looks small but it opens up with glass ceilings and large windows. The space feels very open, contemporary and inviting. The food was very creative and delicious. The entree of stuffed cabbage leaf with pigs trotter in a chicken broth was incredible and the true stand out dish for me. A fish main course was nice but there were a few elements on the plate that I felt did not gel perfectly. The other main was a beef dish that looked incredible and was delicious. Whilst often an after thought, the bread here was dense and dark and I would have been happy to take a loaf home with me! We enjoyed a bottle of Grenache recommended by the sommelier and it was a great choice. Highly recommend this restaurant and very reasonably priced for a...
