Upon arriving in Paris via Eurostar in the afternoon, we decided to have lunch before checking into our hotel. La Maison Blanche, just a few minutes' walk from the train station, caught our eye, and we took a moment to study the menu displayed outside. One of the staff members warmly greeted us and even offered to carry our luggage into the restaurant, setting a friendly tone for our dining experience.
Once inside, we were pleased to discover that the food was quite good. However, our experience took an unexpected turn at the end of lunch. The waiter, who bore a striking resemblance to former US President George W. Bush, presented us with the bill. Initially, we were satisfied with a charge of €49, which seemed fair for the quality of food we had enjoyed. But to our shock, he set the payment machine to €57 and insisted that his service warranted the extra amount.
Caught off guard and pressed for time as we needed to catch a bus, we reluctantly settled the bill. This unexpected incident left a sour note on an otherwise enjoyable meal.
Later, when we asked locals about the situation, they informed us that a 5- 10% service charge can be added if diners are satisfied, but it should be voluntary. We felt disappointed and angered by the staff’s approach, which felt inappropriate and pressured.
In summary, while La Maison Blanche offered a pleasant atmosphere and decent food, the billing incident and the pressure to pay an unwarranted service charge tarnished our experience. I’d recommend keeping a close eye on the charges and being cautious...
Read moreWe first visited La Maison Blanche on a layover after traversing the major sights of Paris in 6hrs. Having missed our final train we arrived here at 2am after an hour walk along the Seine. Not only were the staff welcoming, the atmosphere and the food were amazing.
Words cannot express the flavours and textures in simple things like an omlette or a pot of mussles. We enjoyed the food so much that we made a second visit on our return layover where we enjoyed even more of the restaurants offerings.
Every dish we tasted was better than the last and every penny spent gave the warm feeling of satisfaction.
We definitely recommend the Quattro Fromaggi Tagliatelle, Creamy Mussels, Champignon and Gruyère omlette and Scallops with chives. The coffee is potentially the best coffee I have ever tasted all over the world and the Crème Brulee was out of this world!
When people express an interest of travelling a distance to eat at a certain place I normally dismiss the notion of wasting so much time, however this restaurant in Paris would definitely be my pick of travelling long distance just for a meal.
If you ever find yourself at Gare Du Nord trying to get back to the airport having missed the last RER train, La Maison Blanche is the place for you to recharge and gain the satisfaction of some of the best food...
Read moreAs I was finishing my coffee the waiter slammed the check down on the table and aggressively demanded I pay as he was about to go off duty. (8.00 pm). I told him I hadn’t finished my coffee and I was intending to have a second. He sat down at anther table and stared at me for what seemed like over ten minutes. He eventually left. I reported this to a very pleasant female waiter who patiently listened to what I had to say. I also reported that when I had arrived he insisted I sit near the door when in fact I preferred to sit further back in the restaurant. A little later a young lady customer entered and was also refused a table at the back of the restaurant. The lady waiter called over the manager, who I had seen sat at a table earlier counting out all his money in full view of his customers. He turned out to be quite dumb and appeared to have no idea that the most important person in the restaurant was not in fact himself or his wait staff and seemed genuinely surprised that anyone should think a customer was the most important person in...
