I’ve been coming to Phở Bánh Cuốn 14 in the 13ᵉ arrondissement for well over a decade now, and it remains one of the most authentic Vietnamese restaurants in Paris. Every visit takes me to Vietnam in flavour, and I always leave satisfied.
From day one, the standard here has been remarkably high. The broth for the phở is rich, aromatic, with a subtle balance of star anise, ginger, and onion—not overly heavy, never overly sweet. It’s the kind of broth that warms you to your bones on a cold Parisian night. The beef (both rare slices and cooked) is always fresh, tender, and prepared just right. When I order the phở spécial with raw beef, it gently cooks in the bowl, releasing that wonderful fragrance of meat and spices.
The bánh cuốn is another highlight: thin rice crepes, steamed just so, filled with minced pork and wood ear mushrooms, garnished with fresh herbs and crispy shallots. Light yet filling. I’ve tasted many versions in France and abroad, but theirs still ranks among the very best.
Portions have always been very generous. Even a “standard” bowl is enough to fill you up, and side dishes like nems (spring rolls) still retain their crisp, satisfying texture. The ingredients feel fresh—herbs, bean sprouts, lime wedges—these little additions never feel like an afterthought.
The atmosphere has evolved slightly over the years—Pho 14 is busier than ever, queues are common, tables are close together—but the core experience remains. You come for the food, and you get what you came for: authenticity, consistency, good value.
Service is fast. It’s not fancy, it’s not slick, but efficient. People working behind the counter know what they’re doing, even at peak hours. Sometimes it feels more like a beloved canteen than a restaurant, and that’s part of its charm.
If you want real Vietnamese flavours—an honest phở or bánh cuốn that tastes like something you’d eat in Vietnam—this is one of the few places in Paris that still delivers after all these years. I’ll keep coming back. Highly recommended for both the newcomer and the...
Read moreIt didn't start well but it ended well. Opened on the 25th dec, after a walk at the Parc de Choisy nearby, we thought we would get this special soup from the center of Vietnam called Mì Quảng that is rarely offered in restaurants and we already had it there before. To our surprise not only they were no longer making it but the waiter who greeted us did not speak Vietnamese. This is in general not a good sign for authentic Vietnamese food but we decided to get in and try their Phở. We both got the Special Phở and it was surprisingly amazing, the best one I have ever had to be honest and I tried many places (maybe not all the Vietnamese places in Paris but I tried A LOT in Munich and it was always disappointing). The Phở was quickly served and the bowl was huge for one person but it was a nice surprise. The broth was perfect to my taste, not too salty, nor too much MSG, the noodles, the beef meat cuts, the tendons, the herbs and everything else were there. So even if the waiter who greeted us wasn't Vietnamese, the person who made the Phở knows what they were doing. The menu is small and offers a few starters, different types of Phở, Bò Bún (Parisians are obsessed by this, I don't know why) and some desserts. When I think of it, a limited carte is a good sign because it probably means they will try deliver sone quality on those dishes rather than another small restaurant that offers zillions of dishes on their menu that may be defrozen to be reheated/ fried. It is a small place and the decoration and music are cheesy where you come to slurp quickly your Phở or quickly eat your Bò bún and leave. The waiters are joyful and serve you quickly as they deliver your bill. Will definitely come back there for some Phở. This is yummy approved. Phở, Phở...
Read moreOn the quest to visit as many VN restaurants as we can while we're in Paris for vacation in January this year 2024 after trying all the escargots, ducks, baguettes, croissants, we came to this restaurant as the last one on the list. It's in district 13 where all the VN restaurants are. It was raining and cold, there's seating outside with plastic sheet covers, but we went inside to sit. It's quite crowded, the seatings are so close together that the waiters had to pull the tables out for the customers to slide inside, the same with when they want to leave. This is a Vietnamese restaurant but none of the people in here can speak VN, so we just ordered with the number on the menu. The food is quite good, even the egg rolls are crispy and tasty with rice papers, not sure who's the cook but they did them well. My family didn't really like the seating arrangement, a little cramped for us but we're hungry and wanted to try some new VN restaurants. The pho was good with meatballs and rare beef. I like the tendons, brisket, but there seem to have none. The broth was excellent, the meats are more chewy than other places, but good. The price is excellent, quite inexpensive, no wonder they're so crowded even in the rainy day like today. The service was fast, and it's just like a fast food restaurants, you come, you eat and you run because the seating arrangement is quite tight, you're practically sitting next to someone you don't know to have your bowl of soup. We will not go back here although the food is good but lack of meat options, the seating is too...
