A hidden gem. This summer my daughter attended Reid Hall, a Columbia University-run program. This restaurant is on the same street as Reid Hall. She'd been eyeing up the place for two months and wanted to go there for lunch. I think it was a 25 or 30 Euro prix fixe. Wow! Turned out to be one of the best meals we've ever eaten in Paris, NYC, anywhere. Chef Lionel told us he has earned two Michelin rosettes at other restaurants; this place is, without a doubt, on the way up. Chef Lionel treated us to fois gras with prunes that was out of this world. I had a puy lentil salad to start, which was really light (lentils can be too earthy sometimes). Others had the oh-so-tender aubergine, the tasty country pate and I can't remember the other dish because it wasn't shared, LOL! For entrees we ordered the sea bass with chorizo which was seared to perfection. We also had the roasted pork, which had a balsamic reduction sauce to die for. Then there were the cheeses for dessert. Wow, they were such a treat. The French really are king when it comes to fromage. We also enjoyed the meringue. I don't usually write reviews but I felt compelled. Thank you Chef Lionel. We...
Read moreAfter reading the overwhelmingly positive reviews here, I expected too much. I thought the food was very ordinary. I think people like it because it is similar to home cooking. But at this price, I expect more. Being very familiar with the Vavin neighborhood after spending multiple summers here, I must say that there are far better restaurants around the corner. (Note that I only tried the fish dishes â not sure about the meat.)
Service was at the beginning too fast â one dish came after another. I would have liked to have longer pauses. Then the bill never came: I had to ask for it three times. When it did come, the price was incorrectly calculated. The waitress first insisted that it was correct. No apologies after she corrected her mistake, not to mention she also had served me with someone elseâs...
Read moreGreat local spot. Food is amazing, fresh, and top of the line particularly with intricate flavors. Came here with some locals who have lived in the neighborhood for 40 years. Their ingredients are always splendid. The owner knows how to buy the best cuts of meat or how to pick foie gras with the right fattiness levels. The cook is so creative with his appetizers, desserts, and entrees. He smoked his own salmon, the soup was served hot, the dessert I got today popped in your mouth. The pricing is very reasonable and the service is great. The decor isn't quite at the level of the food but overall it is very nice and one of the best restaurants out of the many I have been to in France particularly with regards...
