Paris Montparnasse – Top of the City, also known as Tour Montparnasse, is an iconic skyscraper in Paris, France, offering panoramic views of the city from its observation deck. Located in the Montparnasse district, it stands as the tallest building in the city center and provides a unique vantage point to admire the beauty of Paris.
The observation deck on the 56th floor of Tour Montparnasse offers breathtaking 360-degree views of the entire city. From here, visitors can see famous landmarks like the Eiffel Tower, Notre-Dame Cathedral, the Louvre Museum, and the River Seine, among others. The unobstructed views stretch for miles, providing a comprehensive perspective of the City of Light.
Unlike some other viewpoints in Paris, Montparnasse Tower is less crowded, allowing for a more relaxed and immersive experience. The glass-walled observation deck ensures clear views, and informative panels provide insights into the history and significance of the landmarks visible from above.
In addition to the observation deck, the Montparnasse Tower complex also offers other attractions and amenities. The 59th floor features a chic restaurant, Le Ciel de Paris, where visitors can savor delicious cuisine while enjoying a remarkable panorama. There is also a gift shop where you can find unique souvenirs and a multimedia area for further exploration and discovery.
Whether you choose to visit during the day to appreciate the city's architectural splendor or in the evening to witness the illuminated skyline, Paris Montparnasse – Top of the City offers a memorable experience. The height and central location of the tower provide a unique perspective on the city's layout and allow visitors to grasp its grandeur and charm.
For those seeking a less conventional viewpoint of Paris, Montparnasse Tower offers an alternative to the traditional observation spots. The opportunity to see the Eiffel Tower itself as part of the cityscape is an added bonus that sets it apart from other viewpoints.

The tower has a viewing platform which you can reach through express elevators and a few steps and the platform itself is covered from wind by huge glass sheets with viewing cutouts for cameras and binoculars (which there are a few of already installed and usable for one or two euros). They seem to also have installations to protect visitors from rain directly above the mentioned glass sheets and also through "curtains" over some parts of the platforms main area.
There are uncomfortable-looking but quite-comfortable-once-youre-seated red chairs which allow you to enjoy the sun without too much wind, which is great on sunny days. You should bring sun protection if you plan to stay there longer on sunny days as there isn't anything throwing shadows.
Again, the view onto every part of the city is excellent, this includes Sacre Coeur, the Eiffel tower, Louvre, Notre-Dame and more. For some, you may need a zoom-enabled camera or binoculars, but you can see everything.
For 15 euros, this is a must-visit.
A souvenir shop and restaurant is located a few floors below the platform but we didnt visit them.
There's also an inside area close to them which allows viewing most of the attractions during bad weather but I recommend going here only if there's at least less clouds so you get the nicest views from the top of the tower.
The platform is centered with some distance to the edges of the building so people afraid of heights shouldn't have problems staying here without being afraid. The elevators are closed (no glass elevators, also important for people afraid of heights).
Go here! You may regret it if you don't.

The walk up to the outdoor section is covered in old peeling graffiti and nasty dust covered beams, for example. It's also not in the nicest part of town and felt slightly dangerous getting in and out of at night. However, unlike many other tower views it's actually easy for an amateur photographer to set up here and get shots. The biggest plus is that they don't care about tripods. At the Shard they confiscate tripods when you go through security! The second biggest is that the glass on the INSIDE room (very important if the top is too windy) appears to not be the two paned design that pushes the interior reflections back into your shot. It's also a larger space so the interior lights are farther from the windows reducing reflection again. There's even a waist high ledge in front of the windows so you can use a short tripod and prop your camera against the glass. And it's basically ALL glass walls, so there's less fighting for the few "good spots" between people eating at tables, etc. like at the Shard. In other places like the Shard it's impossible to get a tripod shot from the interior and the outside literally shakes around in the wind. The visit was also much more laid back (the security guards seemed happy to be there, which is rare) and it wasn't as much of a funnel to get you to buy drinks and souvenirs...
