My review is just that, My experience on that day. I only compare a restaurant by My own expectation of value for money, I do not expect to get a Michelin star meal at a 12€ mains restaurant, café or take away, I do expect to receive value for money, and a reasonable level of service, therefor I rate the venue at the price/service/food range they intend to portray. Ratings do matter & some businesses are poorly judged by nasty, self serving people. Be fair and think before nastily judging on one bad point. Please Enjoy!
We have searched on Google with high rate French restaurant, and get impressed by their menu. We have ordered starter-main course that night to enjoy our stay in Rennes.
The starter of the scallop shell was quite acid and the seasoning is not balanced. But acceptable. Calf with mushroom is good.
The main dish: mushroom soup with fish ravioli. (Picture 2) The soup is bitter and there is no other taste. After hesitation, we told the owner that the soup is bitter. She was very surprised and at the beginning thought it’s because we are not used to the mushroom taste. But indeed, at home we cooked a lot of shitaki and broth, it cannot be bitter like that.
Therefore I cannot finish my main dish. She went back to the kitchen and they found the soup is bitter due to a lemon forgotten during the cooking. It can happen sometimes that we understand.
So she asked if I want to continue to finish my dish, said either offered us 2 desserts or this dish offered.
To be honest I was not hungry anymore, but since she insisted, we just took 1 dessert to share as a gesture. (Around 10€)
At the moment to pay the bill, we notice that the dessert is offered, however we pay the full price of the bitter soup which I felt it is not really comfortable after— we did not want the desserts, instead of 2 desserts, we took 1 as a gesture to show that we understand.
Indeed I would prefer they charge the dessert but not the soup which is not eatable.
I hesitate a while to do this comment but also I hope it can be a good case for the restaurant to learn and reflect on how to improve...
Read moreWell, we came here for dinner because we wanted to have a typical French meal. The location is great, not very far from the city's center and Republique. The restaurant is distributed between a bar (first-floor) and a restaurant (second floor). All seats are shiny blue:-) We were alone at around 19:00 and the lady who served us was really friendly and helpful. Had good English, which was convenient. We ordered an entree (plate de la mer), which was very tasty, and stated main dishes of Veal casserole and rolled chicken with fresh mushrooms sauce. All was really great and we had a pleasant time. Price was good - 70 Euros (including a dessert and two glasses of wine)....
