Bougeotte — Restaurant in Saint-Malo

Bougeotte is likely the best kept culinary secret in Saint Malo.

Of course the historic intra-muros area of Saint Malo is filled with many opportunities to eat, but Bougeotte is unique, different, and simply delicious.

This place is a Coffeeshop first and foremost, that can and does turn into a astonishing tapas style restaurant for lunch. For the summer evenings they will offer their delicious meals for dinner as well.

Bougeotte offers a new style and new approach to Saint Malo intra-muros, a place where all can feel welcome, and a place where all can find many mouthwatering surprises without having to commit to only a single dish or a large and long multi course endeavor.

The experienced owners bring creativity, sustainability, and a great variety of options to the table, which we experienced when we spontaneously tested first the coffee shop menu in the morning, and then a truly outstanding dinner menu in the evening.

Bougeotte aims for locally and sustainable food sources. Everything is fresh, and locally sourced. This farm to table approach then gets a wonderful spin of creativity, resulting in a thoughtfully elected mix of changing offerings.

You just want really good coffee, coffee that tasted supérieur, but coffee that does not make you feel bad later? Bougeotte is a perfect coffee shop to seek out.

For lunch and dinner, the menu transforms. Comfort food is just as available as healthy locally sourced options, ranging from selected meats, fish, or cheese, to many very nutritious and delicious vegetarian and vegan options. Many menu items can be adjusted upon request, adding additional vegan options or allowing for food sensitivities.

While the owners experiment and find the proper balance for a long term sustainable coffee shop and restaurant, make sure to give them a try. Your tastebuds will enjoy every minute of it.

For us this was clearly and unequivocally the number one winner of the many great kitchens that we sampled here in Saint Malo.

Regardless how the story for Bougeotte continues, and regardless which approach will work for the creative owners in the long run, rest assured that Bougeotte is here to stay.

The best thing is, you can try many different things from the menu. Food is served in tapa style portions that can be enjoyed individually or that can be shared. The quality and the superior taste will make each visit unforgettable.

The food was absolutely delicious, but there were only three options for mains, all priced at €16 euros or more. We have had breakfast here two years in a row having taken advantage of an overnight trip offer at Christmas on Brittany Ferries.
