QUESTION: Do you like your ice cream to be served in a bowl or in a cone? Under any normal circumstances a question like this would be trivial - but not at Sanchez Sant Malo. If you make the wrong choice here you'll get KICKED OUT!!!! No joke! I was there today with my wife, sat at a table looking forward to ordering some drinks. The waitress kindly reminded us that all of the ice cream that was available up front could be ordered at the table too. Great! So, I went and had a look at what was on offer and eventually settled upon some sort of cone - as did my wife. When we sat down, a waiter angrily and abruptly THREW US OUT - saying that people who bought cones were not allowed to sit at tables. A slightly embarrassing scene for everyone involved ensued and within a minute I had an angry waitress giving us the same kind of behaviour and pointing at a sign. Yes folks. A sign!
Interestingly, it's the first time I've ever visited France and had a waiter insisting that they couldn't speak English. In this case BOTH of them made that claim. As for the sign? Well.... I suppose you can use a sign to justify anything, but when I'm on holiday at a restaurant, I'm not in sign reading mode. By all means, pull me up for not reading a sign if I'm driving a car - not when I'm in a restaurant, on holiday.
These people have utter contempt for their customers. They are greedy. They are rude. They are certainly not friendly.
I never in a million years dreamed I'd go into a restaurant and be kicked out, based on the fact that I happened to choose a cone, instead of a bowl. Can hardly believe I'm even typing it. They never even gave me an opportunity to order drinks and various other products! They couldn't wait to throw me out.
By the way, the walled city of St Malo is not a pleasant place to go to. It's a complete tourist trap. The people are rude. They are dreadfully sneaky (oh boy - I could talk about that for an hour!). I'm pretty sure they would charge you for breathing air if they thought they could get away with it. The people here are SO RUDE. It's an awful, ghastly place.
Sanchez (con!) artisan glacier truly represents the WORST of France.
STAY AWAY FROM ST MALO!

Read moreProbably the worst experience we have so far in St.Malo. we bought an italian ice cream from the other side of the shop and would like to come sit for some coffee but we were refused the swrvice and told to leave right away by an elderly woman service staff. She didnt even care to ask if we want anything but kept telling us to go away even if we were with kids. There was no 'excuse me' . There was only 'vous devez partir' How could we know that even if we buy ice cream from them, we are not allowed to sit even for another thing in the coffee shop. It was RUDE and inconsiderate.
This one star is for the other staff who came to help resolve the situation.
Ps. We are not tourists. We live right around the neighborhood. We always came for your delicious ice cream but you can keep your staff. You lost...
Read moreIt was insanely over-priced and was not even tasty. I ordered a sundae and I was given this absolutely massive cocktail glass filled with ice cream. I know it is weird to complain about a portion being too large but it was annoying because I couldn't finish it (I'm a full-grown man with a large appetite). I had to help my girlfriend finish hers and just abandon mine. It was not even tasty. Very mediocre ice-cream. Only the pistachio one tasted good out of the 5 I had that day. The old waitress is an absolute witch. She was extremely rude and disrespectful to everyone. The bathroom was also gross but not the worst. PLEASE save your money and go to literally any other ice-cream place in the walled city of Saint-Malo!!! There are plenty of alternatives and I am so mad that I...
