Very good food, plenty of flavor, service adequate

A large, rather busy restaurant built into the main city wall in St. Malo. Inside dining room as well as an enclosed patio area. Both had tables very close together, a little too close actually. Very busy but staff managed to wait on tables in reasonable time frame.

Each table got a starter of a small serving of a chicken pate wit crackers. Smooth, lightly seasoned. Also ordered appetizers. The Roasted Bone Marrows were two, sizzling good sized portions garlicy and slightly salty with crostini. Really good with the Paulaner lager. Also very good was a baked camembert with white wine and honey, crackers. Plenty of flavor that went well with a glass of cabernet.

The entrees were both good. Sea scallops seared in herbed butter with risotto laced with truffles and parmesan. A good sized portion. The Rack of Lamb came to the table in a baking dish in a rich, gravy or au jus with plenty of rosemary, thyme and garlic. Carved table side, placed on plate and dolloped with the au jus. Almost fork tender. Enough for two people! Both dishes came with large, deep brown frites with salt and herbs as well as salad in a Dijon vinaigrette and crusty bread.

A really great meal despite the close tables and sound level. Recommend...

We booked a table for 14:00. We showed up at 13:55 and were asked to wait because it was not 14:00. At 14:00, we were told to wait for "some time". At 14:15, and with no information or attention from the waiter, we asked for info and very rudely and arrogantly the waiter told us that he could accommodate us in 2 tables and inside. We asked for what we had booked (a single table) and his behaviour against us started to be even aggresive, waiving a knife and a fork before us. His explanations were very rude, and offered us to choose another restaurant, which we did. I asked for the complaints book or something similar and was not given a chance to fill any written complaint in the restaurant. On a final note, we went to a nearby restaurant and we caught the waiter of the former restaurant calling via cell phone the one we went to talk about us... This waiter definitely doesn't deserve this job,...

We had the steak and mussels. Normally this cut of steak is know for its tenderness and flavor but it was really tough, I couldn’t chew through the sinew and silver skin, I had to spit out the meat. It was cooked medium but more red than pink. So it definitely was not the cook, it was the cut of meat. The mussels were lukewarm in temperature when they arrived but we don’t send food back, so we ate what we could and left. The flavors were ok. It was a nice presentation and the staff were really nice. If you eat here don’t sit inside near the bar/kitchen it was unbearably loud. My ears hurt sitting there….they wash the dishes at the bar. For the price you pay, it’s...

Best tartare I’ve had in years! Tasty and not minced like a paste, I bet they do it with a knife in this kitchen. Sorry for the picture of my tartare, but as soon as I had the dish on my table I couldn’t wait to start, and by the time I thought about the picture, half was gone. A few days ago I tried the truffle scallops, and those also were quite satisfactory. Price is high, but the experience is worth it, several wine (french) are available to choose, and beer enough to have different styles to match Your plate. The only thing I didn’t like, are the spaces available: small tables and close spaced, but this is the way it is in France. Micro restroom.
