Nestled in the heart of Saint-Maloâs port, L'Amiral promises a culinary voyage that aligns beautifully with its maritime ambiance. The exceptional view over the bay is nothing short of picturesque, offering a serene setting to delve into the delights of French cuisine.
The meal commenced on a high note with a spread of well-executed dishes that honor the local produce of Brittany. The choucroute, tartare, and seafood were particularly noteworthy, each plate a testament to the culinary prowess that resides in the kitchen. The dessert too was a sweet voyage in itself, with the parfait, fruitcake, and profiteroles rounding off a fulfilling gastronomic journey.
However, a downside was the condition of the tableware. Each plate was chipped or slightly damaged, which was a pity considering the otherwise high quality of the dining experience.
The evening did have its share of rough waters initially. The first interaction with a server left much to be desired, especially when a request for an English menu was met with a cold response. For a venue that stands as a beacon of French hospitality, this was a disappointing start, potentially alienating international patrons.
But as the evening progressed, calm waters returned with the arrival of a new server. His amiable and knowledgeable demeanor was a breath of fresh air. His impeccable service not only salvaged the evening but elevated the entire dining experience to the level of excellence one would anticipate from a restaurant of L'Amiral's caliber.
In conclusion, L'Amiral is a gastronomic haven that provides a beautiful blend of local flavors with a scenic view of Saint-Malo's bay. The minor setback in service and tableware condition was well-compensated by the subsequent exemplary service and the delectable food that honored the rich culinary tradition...
Read moreWe had a pretty disappointing experience at this location. We had reserved a particular table with a view on the harbor, which is the primary interest of L'Amiral. Since this was a long anticipated family event, we had taken the precaution to call the restaurant to make sure our request for a specific table had been taken into account. We were confirmed that it had been. When we arrived, we were immediately sent to an inferior table with no view, kind of in a long hallway with permanent trafic in our back into the kitchen . I don't usually complain...these things happen. But this was made so carelessly by the staff that it felt frustrating, disrespectful and infuriating. They simply did not acknowledge their mistake and did not try to make it up in any way. The only initiative that the girl took was to let us know that we could come back in 2 hours with no garantee that any proper table would be then available.
To add to the frustration, note that the restaurant required credit card deposit upon reservation and sent reminders that our table would not be secured if we were not showing up on time... When you impose this level of requirement on your customers, you should at least impose on yourself the minimum professional behavior. The food, which is ok, does not compensate enough for such appalling service.
Needless to say, we will...
Read moreThe front desk at our hotel gave this place high marks, indicating it was the best seafood in the area. The Kir Royale aperitifs were delicious. We had oysters, a plateau de fruits de mer, a half chilled lobster with mayonnaise and filet de boeuf with frites. I know August isn't the best month for oysters. They were very spare in terms of volume, but delicious. Many of the bigorneaux were empty. The crevettes and langoustines were delicious. I wouldn't say it was the most generous plateau de fruits de mer I've ever had, especially by st. Malo standards. The chilled 1/2 homard was good. The filet de Boeuf was possibly the best I've ever had, and cooked to perfection medium rare. I appreciated the fact that the use of salt was spare. Le Classique mi-cuit au chocolat et fÚve de tonka was one of the most delicious desserts I've ever had, reminiscent of what we call "chocolate lava cake" in the US. Our service was spotty. We were rather abandoned after the entrees were served. I had to flag down our waitress and request the dessert course after a long wait, even though I'd...
