Very very disappointing. We came in having been recommended by another restaurant that was closed for lunch.
The restaurant was extremely small, which can be very endearing when done well, but this just felt cramped. The decor also felt very out of place in such a beautiful walled city, just a bit tacky. Very unpleasant bathroom too.
We both ordered the Moules Marinières with homemade chips, which arrived fairly quickly with a very fair protion of mussles, however the mussels were a let down.
A lot of broken shells and a lot of very discolored mussels, which of course, is to be expected within reason, however I have never had to discard so many crushed or sick looking mussels in any other restaurant. Some of the mussles were very clearly of poor standard, some simply had chunks of shell in them from other broken mussels, but almost all of them were fairly tasteless. There was an absolutely mountain of nearly raw onion placed atop the crock of shells, which I eventually tossed into the discard bowl as it was far too much raw onion to eat and it made half of the mussels inaccessible. When I did make my way through the large pile, I reached the sauce at the bottom. A very paltry amount with very little taste. Had this sauce been tasty and full of flavour, the standard of the mussels could have been overlooked, however it was just bland, and there was very little of it.
The frites were also disappointing. A very small portion of very greasy, oily chips with very little flavour and no crispness to them at all. No amount of salt could hide the unsettling texture.
We had no starters and no desserts, no drinks, just the moules frites, and this meal cost us €30.30
The lady who served us was very kind and attentive and did what she could to keep us happy, so I can't complain about the service at all. The service alone is why the review is not 1/5
Seeing other positive reviews, I'm sure that we might have come on a bad day, maybe the off season, maybe we could have ordered other dishes that tend to be better in this restaurant. I want to like this restaurant and feel almost obliged to give it a second chance, but I just don't think I could considering the amount of other restaurants available...
Read moreI am at a loss for words to describe our dining experience. My 14-year-old saw the picture of the exterior and thought it looked delicious, so we decided to give it a try. Unfortunately, it turned out to be the worst dinner experience we’ve ever had. Everything, from the waiter to the atmosphere, went from bad to worse.
The most disappointing part was the 38$ "plateau de fruits de mer," where the crab was so dry it was inedible—likely two or three weeks old (see attached picture). I politely mentioned this to the owner, who claimed he received the crab that morning and would inform his supplier. He offered us a complimentary item to make amends. never seen anything about any discount at the end.
Sadly, the same story applied to the chicken and the steak; both were equally disappointing.
To top it all off, they made several mistakes on our bill.
With so many great dining options in Saint-Malo, I regret falling into this tourist trap. Tomorrow, we’re heading to Mont Saint-Michel, and I’ll definitely be more cautious about our...
Read moreThe Poisson en Croûte was pure perfection—flaky fish wrapped in a golden, buttery crust, soaking up that herb-garlic beurre blanc like magic. The roasted veggies added a deep, smoky char, while the crispy potato chips brought just the right amount of crunch. Then came the duo of velvety mashed potatoes and the rich, slightly sweet purple yam-onion purée, layering on even more depth. Every bite was a masterclass in balance and texture. Paired with an ice-cold Leffe, it cut through the richness...
