Even though not very lavishly presented, this little restaurant is one of the best value quality establishments that I have found in the region, and certainly worth a 100km round trip. Located in a small alley in the old quarter of the lovely town of Saintes, just 100m or so from the Charente, it is a cave (wine shop) that has expended to a restaurant (or possibly vice versa). The chef clearly is serious in presenting interesting and tasty dishes well presented. There is a menu for 17/20€ for 2 or 3 courses. Good selection of wine available by the glass. Had been staying in Saintes for 2 nights & were longing to try this restaurant out. It was worth the wait. I'm now firmly hooked on cucumber sorbet ... perfect !! C'était pourtant bien parti cocktail très bien et petit taost avec tomate. Et puis voilà j'ai pris la viande "fumée" au thym le problème c'est pas fumé c'est du thym en train de brûler sur la viande, donc de la cendre partout dans l'assiette, comme nous avons mangé dehors premier coup de vent et hop de la cendre sur les affaires. La viande était super tendre et très bonne vraiment dommage. Nous en avons parlé avec je pense la patronne qui n'était pas ouverte à la critique et nous l'a bien fait comprendre c'est dommage. Nous avions d'autre remarque constructive mais bon pas grave. Je ne parlerai pas du reste . Comme on est pas trop mal servi sur saintes au niveau restaurant, donc on en a plein d'autre à découvrir tout au long de l'année, on a fait celui là et on ne nous y reprendra pas. Pour reponse: en effet on ne peut pas plaire à tout le monde heureusement, mais au lieu de déformer mes propos je vais les dire moi même c'est plus simple je cite :"les gens qui n'aime pas on tendance à ne pas le dire".
