La Romane — Restaurant in Sarlat-la-Canéda

Busy place. Pizzas are good although the bottom of the base could be a little less dark. Minor gripe though.

Unfortunately I wasn’t made to feel very welcome. I was dining alone and despite a big terrace area with plenty of free space I was only offered an inside table close to the oven. I asked to sit outside but was told these were tables for 4 and so were not suitable for 1 person. Boss did mention he’d move me but later said it ‘wasn’t possible’ (a table for 2 just outside the window remained empty throughout my entire meal).

Read the reviews and you know, was way better than those. Arrived on time, was greeted with great warmth and had a great table. Food (pizza mostly) really was great, one of the better pizzas I've had. The surprise, they sang Happy birthday to my wife and put a candle in our chocolate fondant, and merrily sang to us in front of the restaurant, really nice touch. Une expérience italienne inoubliable à Sarlat !

Dès que nous avons franchi la porte, nous avons été accueillis avec une délicate attention : un superbe bol d’olives vertes, qui donnait déjà le ton d’un repas placé sous le signe du raffinement. L’intérieur est chaleureux, empreint d’une atmosphère élégante et conviviale où l’on se sent immédiatement bien.

Puis vint le moment tant attendu : les pizzas. Que dire sinon qu’elles sont de véritables chefs-d’œuvre ? La Calzone et l’Aquila nous ont tout simplement transportés en Italie : pâte parfaitement cuite, garniture généreuse, saveurs équilibrées et authentiques. Chaque bouchée était une explosion de plaisir.

Et comme si cela ne suffisait pas, les desserts ont été à la hauteur de cette perfection : une panna cotta légère, soyeuse, subtilement parfumée, suivie d’un coulant au chocolat fondant, divinement gourmand. Enfin, le geste final, rare et tellement apprécié : les digestifs offerts, une attention qui signe un véritable art de recevoir.

Mais ce qui rend l’expérience unique, c’est aussi cette équipe. Un personnel souriant, complice, animé par une vraie passion et une cohésion qui se ressent dans chaque détail. Cette harmonie, on la perçoit et on la savoure autant que les plats.
