Avoid! This was the real lowlight of 5 days of food in versailles!!

140 euros, 2 people, 2 courses & wine. The highlight was the €50 wine. Odd standard of service. Extremely disappointing food. 3 “Tempura” prawns (€15) were coated in a slimy flacid batter. The crispy red mullet was not crispy and descaling needed more attention. The side of broccolini was watery. Attention drawn to this at each stage of our meal. I saw the waitress mention to chef, but he shrugged his shoulders and was not concerned to engage with his diners. I guess that communicates the level of care and attention you might expect. We settled our bill in full and spoke again to the front of house “senior” member of staff who frankly could Not if cared less! He acknowledged our very poor experience and explained it was due to being busy with a big group upstairs! No attempt to try & correct our spoilt evening. Frankly they did not give a care! Spend your hard earned money elsewhere …. in azuli or the many other excellent restaurants where they value their customers and take care to deliver...

I wasn’t going to leave a review but after receiving two automated emails from restaurant requesting feedback, I obliged. I can’t comment on the food because we left before ordering. We had a reservation and upon arrival, we requested to be sat outside. As the music was quite loud inside and additionally while there we heard a tray full of dishes drop and then a very loud bang and a scream like something had fallen over. Seemed chaotic inside. We were taken to a table that was in the sun and when I asked if we could be in the shade, the woman replied rudely that they were fully booked, it was a big night, etc. Ok, I understand that, no problem. However, a few minutes later, tables were brought outside for another party and set up in the shade. So, they had time to do that for a party of 4, but not us. K. We wouldn’t have minded moving our table ourselves given the option. Then after sitting there for over 15 minutes with nothing but a wine list that was hastily dropped at our table, we left. Amazing, amazing, amazing food and atmosphere. The service was kind and gracious, but my server seemed to forget things, like my doggy bag (which I also then forgot), but apparently these are not part of French culture. He comped my drink so it was all good. I think in general an American level of service is rare in Europe so do not be surprised or offended. Everyone was kind and helped me understand the menu even though it was in French and I only speak English. Plus, it seems like only tall, hot, young guys work the front of house, as is the chef, for what it’s worth. It certainly helped me enjoy my meal, which was creative, delicious, and amazing. Please add this to your trip to Versailles! You will also get to see part of the old town there and it is quaint and lovely. A gourmet experience all...
