87 Mamma Lina — Restaurant in Baden-Baden

Good food but stingy practices left a bit of a sour taste in our mouth. I would recommend this place, but the people I was with were upset with what happened so I'm going to share the average sentiment.

The food was good but if you order just a pasta for instance it can be very one note. This is pretty normal for Italian food, so you go to order starters or multiple dishes. First of all the dishes are €25 each so getting two because you don't want just a plate of pasta is hard to justify, you can share and that's what we did. But we also bought the €8 focaccia, which I mention the price because that appetiter was 3 small pieces of bread with a vegan compote on top. Before we had even opened the menu they were pouring olive oil into small plates so we were excited for fresh bread, cracked pepper in some nice olive oil - the full experience. I'll happily pay for the bread - something other restaurants in this and other countries would happily supply in mass. But this was not enough bread to give 4 people two bites. It was almost nothing. Which again, I shrugged this off but all three of my co-diners were upset by it so im mentioning it. The moment the bread was done the olive oil was whisked away - so we couldn't even use it for our main dishes (would we have, idk, but still literally one person never got to use it because there was so little bread). Again, they were upset but I moved on. BUT THEN what added me to the upset ranks was the restaurant charged us for the olive oil! It was like a buck a person or something, totally meaningless all things considered cost wise, but we weren't asked - we weren't given enough bread to enjoy the olive oil, and although the portions were fine they clearly felt like half a well rounded meal.

I would have happily paid 12 dollars, 8 for bread and 4 for olive oil, if it meant I got a loaf of fresh bread and consensually paid for olive oil. I wouldn't be thrilled about the price, we make focaccia at home which is fantastic, but like who cares we're dining. But the fact we got almost no bread for a paid appetizer and we got a surcharge for oil we didn't actually ask for just felt a bit scummy.

I liked the food, I got their Pulpo (octopus) and it was delicious, we had a pizza at the table that was good neopolitan (8/10 I was told), and then two pastas that were like 7/10 as I was told (very one note though). It was like €200 for that plus a round of drinks (great 7/10's mostly) and the bread and oil.

If it had been half the cost I'd say this place is a slam dunk, amazing. If they were more generous with the cheapest components of this meal (and honest about what's complimentary and what's not), I'd put it solidly in the "expensive but worth it" category. At €50 a person for that experience, it becomes less of a clear hit and more of a good recommendation if none of the other great restaurants stand out to you in Baden Baden.

Eines Vorweg: Wir haben von dem ganzen Social Media Hype vorher nichts mitbekommen. Wir haben uns einfach im Internet ein schön aussehendes Restaurant rausgesucht um unseren Hochzeitstag und unseren Schwarzwald Wanderurlaub am Abend Nett abzurunden. Meine Ersten Zweifel hatte ich bereits, als in der online Reservierung von einem Dresscode die Rede war. Nagut "lässig Elegant" ist jetzt nichts wildes. Aber wenn ich in eine Pizzaria gehe finde es schon ein Stück weit anmaßend mir vorschreiben zu lassen wie ich mich zu kleiden habe. Nach unserer Definition lässig Elegant gekleidet kamen wir nun dort an. Wir wurden am Eingang in Empfang genommen und durch das ganze (große und auch bis auf zwei Omis leere) Restaurant nach draußen auf die Terasse geführt. Die Terrasse war im Gegensatz zum Innenbereich brechend voll und furchtbar eng. Wir hätten auch lieber drinnen gesessen mit weniger Lautstärke und bei 30Grad Außentemperatur auch angenehmer, aber das war uns bei Ankunft einfach alles noch nicht so bewusst. Es wurde uns aber auch nicht angeboten innen zu sitzen( wie gesagt dort war alles frei). Am Tisch angekommen wurden wir gefragt ob wir direkt eine Flasche Wasser haben wollen, was wir bejahten. Wir dachten eine höfliche Geste wie das an heißen Tagen in Restaurants üblich ist (Beispiel: in Wien haben wir sogar im Januar immer Wasser umsonst zum Essen bekommen). Am Ende hat uns diese eine Flasche wasser fast 10 Euro gekostet. FÜR WASSER! Dann Wurde uns noch Brot mit Olivenöl hingestellt. Bestellt haben wir das nicht. Bezahlen mussten wir es am Ende trotzdem. Wegen der Lautstärke der dicht an dicht sitzendende Gäste hat sich meine Frau kurzzeitig am tisch um 90grad auf Eck gesetzt damit wir uns weiter unterhalten konnten. Sichtlich angenervt hat der kellner oder juniorchef oder was auch immer(der eine aus den instagram videos) ihr gesagt sie solle sich gleich wieder richtig setzen da er sonst nicht richtig arbeiten könne wenn die Gäste vom noch leeren Nachbartisch kämen. Funfact: der Nachbarstiach blieb bis wir gingen jedenfalls leer. Meine Frau hat Trüffelpasta bestellt und ich hatte Neapoletanische Pizza. Die Pasta war gut. Die Pizza war ansich auch gut. Allerdings habe ich bei Neapoletanischer Pizza immer das gefühl solange der Rand perfekt ist kann man in die Mitte alles draufschmeißen wie man will. Hatte schon bessere Neapoletanische Pizza, schlecht war sie aber auch nicht. Hätte mir zum Essen noch anderes besteck gewünscht. Oder geschnittene Pizza. Mit dem stumpfen Messer konnte man höchstens warme Butter Schneiden. Um uns herum saß wohl die high society von Baden Baden, oder die sich dafür halten. Man wurde doch sehr unangenehm beäugt. Vielleicht haben diese möchtegern Upperclass Schnösel mit ihrer fragwürdigen beige in beige Garderobe dann doch gemerkt dass Fußvolk aus der Arbeiterklasse im Hause ist. Dann Wurde am Nachbartisch noch geraucht. Während andere Gäste essen. Noch ein Grund warum wir es später bereuhten nicht im drinnen gesessen zu haben. Naja wir hatten eh aufgegessen und und haben schnell bezahlt. Wir sind sonst gerne großzügig. Aber auf Trinkgeld haben wir diesmal verzichtet. Das wird sich über den Wasserverkauf ja schon quasi selbst gegeben. Und nötig hat die feine fake Gesellschaft es ja eh nicht. Daraufhin sind wir ohne Nachtisch geflüchtet und haben uns diesen vor Furst in form eines Eises beim McDonals Drive in geholt. Der warscheinlich für Mindeslohn arbeitende Mitarbeiter Dort hingegen war super herzlich und total Freundlich. So einfach kann das sein. Fazit: Alles nur Fake für Leute die auch Fake sind und nur den nächsten insta Hotspot abklappern wollen damit der Fancy Pizza mit den ''soft and crunchy in the same Time''-Rand viel Aufmerksamkeit generiert. Preis Leistung passt auch nicht. Für normale Menschen eine komplette...

I rarely leave reviews, but my recent experience was so shocking that I feel compelled to share.

The visit started off fine—cozy atmosphere, polite staff, and a menu that seemed promising. I ordered a fresh garden salad, expecting something simple and satisfying. What I got instead was a stomach-turning surprise: live worms crawling through the lettuce.

Yes, you read that right—worms. In. The. Salad.

At first, I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me, but no. They were very much alive. I discreetly informed the server, who seemed stunned but offered no real apology or explanation, only to take the dish away with a halfhearted “we’ll look into it.”

There was no offer to comp the meal, no manager visit, no sense of urgency or accountability. I left immediately and will absolutely not be returning. A salad is supposed to be fresh, but I didn’t expect it to be wildlife habitat fresh.

To anyone considering dining here: proceed with caution. I truly hope this was a one-time health code nightmare—but it’s one I won’t soon forget.
