Spezial-Keller — Restaurant in Bamberg

Very good beer garden overlooking the city of Bamberg!

I was told this is one of the best places to view Bamberg, but when I hear that expression I expect my jaw to drop, and that did not happen. The view is nice (little obstructed by trees and houses) but if that is the main reason for the visit, one might end up disappointed.

I did however enjoy the setting of the garden - lively atmosphere, many different seating options - either under huge trees or sunbreallas - and great food! The only missing element of great experience was music - or lack of it - that would put this place to another level.

There is no menu book available at the tables, instead it is printed on paper as displayed at the blackboards spread out among tables. On the other hand the menu is simple with only a handful of typical German delicacies such as pork knuckle, schnitzels and sausages. The food was very tasty and filling, although the service was a bit slow (that is understandable as the beer garden was full on Saturday early evening). I still have mixed feelings about the Spezial - a smoked beer - as it's rather overwhelming and quite sweet, however worth the try!

They don't accept cards as a payment method. Nice place to chill after a long day in the city! Visited...

The finest view in Bamberg in my opinion, as you can see the whole town below you. As you'd expect it's a serious hill climb to get up there and not something for the less mobile to tackle, but if you do make it, the beer, food and views more than make up for it.

I had the kesselfleisch which was basically boiled pork with bread and mustard and it was like nothing else! The perfect companion to the smoked beer on offer.

Service could be improved but the poor bloke serving us had about 30 tables and it seemed like an impossible task to cover them all!

Honestly there's little better in life than a pint of Spezial-Keller beer (in a proper beer mug) with some of their wonderful food and that view - I might have...

Bamburg has some of the best breweries in Germany, and the Spezial-Keller is perhaps the nicest beer garden in Bamburg. Therefore, perhaps this is the best, nicestest beer garden in all of German? I have been here a few times, and I am not the only one to say the amazing beer and lovely views and atmosphere make this location special. Maybe the best in German, and therefore perhaps the best in the World? Big claims, but worth considering. Please consider the premise that my argument is based on the quality of the beer, and the atmosphere of the beer garden with it lovely...
