Racist. I faced micro aggression/racism and had an uncomfortable experience at the restaurant. This was the FIRST time in all my travels in germany/netherlands/belgium that I faced such treatment.
I am an asian solo traveller, and asked for a solo table (I speak perfect english by the way, tho the ppl at the restaurant were not as fluent).
The sever put me in a table with an elderly asian couple (who were entirely different in nationality from me- felt they were from either southern China/ other southeastern asian country). Usually I dont mind sharing tables. But the seating she proposed was ridiculous. I was to sit in a small table, sitting in between these two people eating across each other. When I arrived, the couple sort of stared at me cuz they were surprised I was sitting directly in between them. (As was I lol.)
There were many other bigger tables that I could have sat in, but the table they offered was that tiny table.
And the fact that there was only ONE asian table and the rest of the 20 tables were all whites, makes it ridiculous. It's obvious that they tried to purposefully seat me there. It can't be a coincidence really. And the table itself was in the teeny tiny corner of the room.
Anyway so I declined the table. Weird, rude, and horrible experience. Not...

We went there based on the ratings provided on Google maps and it turned out to be a really good place for lunch what with it's historical significance. This place with its Gothic vaults was turned into a brewery in the 17th century. You should definitely go over there if you have a sweet spot for places with a story. The curtains, table dividers, doors, windows etc. were very much in sync contributing greatly to the ambience. Sadly I don't remember the names of the dishes we had. The first one was chicken steak with potato dumplings and another one was 3/5 wursts with cabbage and smoked sauce bread. The taste of the steak went from smoked to crunchy and the potatoes were mushy and yummy!! The wursts with the cabbage went from sour, spicy to super delicious. Smoked beer is a must as this place is especially popular for it!! If you aren't into beers I would suggest to go for lemonade because it was terrific for a non-alcoholic drink.!!
The only disappointment is that this place DOESN'T ACCEPT CARDS. So be sure to carry some cash else going to the nearest ATM will be a 10 minute walk. Maybe it's to maintain the 'eating-in-a-place-so-old' feeling. Luckily we managed to put bits and...
Read moreMost famous Rauchbier Brewery in Germany, first mentioned in the year of 1405, worth an experience!
Beer: As Bamberg is known for its Rauchbier this is the place to try as many varieties of Rauchbier as possible. You can chose if you want to sit in the restaurant area or if you want to stay in the pub or outside, as many locals do.
Recommendations: I recommend the Rotbier as it has next to the smoky taste a bit of a fruity flavour. The Märzen has a lot of the traditional smoky taste and doesnât have a heavy taste.
Food: traditional german Food, itâs not made for the eyes but for the stomach! Donât expect much flavour as this is typical german food, but its enough to satisfy your hunger.
Recommendations: Schlenkerla Bierhaxe if youâre really hungry! The meat is nicely done and comes with a well crusty skin Otherwise Schlenkerla BratwĂźrste. Served with typical Sauerkraut and nice baked bread, perfect if youre not fully hungry, but you still want to eat something.
Staff: As its a very popular place in Bamberg, its sometimes a bit hectic. you may have to wait a bit until youâre getting served, but the staff lets you know that they noticed you and that youâre not forgotten. Come with a little bit of patience and you get friendly...
