Bamberg, the beer capital of Germany
We took the one hour drive to Bamberg, known for its amazing old town (Altstadt) and supposingly the Beer capital of Germany
Parking was a bit of a challenge, wrong carpark and a 1 Kilometer walk to the old town district with its famous Dom! Lesson learned!
Here a little overview hijacked from Dr. Google:
Bamberg is a town in northern Bavaria, Germany, laid out over 7 hills where the Regnitz and Main rivers meet. Its old town preserves structures from the 11th to 19th centuries including the muraled Altes Rathaus (town hall), which occupies an island in the Regnitz reached by arched bridges. The Romanesque Bamberg Cathedral, begun in the 11th century, features 4 towers and numerous stone carvings.
We did walk the entire length of this picturesque town and it was truly amazing, but I let the Pictures speak for itself!
Enjoy this little photographic journey!
My 5 cents, visit in the spring or autumn time, and enjoy this city of truly historic magnificent value! Recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site! Worth visiting

Read moreBamberg Old Town is a gorgeous, old, medieval, World Heritage town in southern Germany and northern Bavaria. The king of Germany, Henry II, made it the seat of a bishopric in 1007. Bamberg was meant to be a second Rome. After that, its architecture influenced northern Germany and Hungary. It was also the center of the Enlightenment in Germany in the 18th century.
Its streets are lined with cobblestone and its medieval style is everywhere to be seen. Make sure to pay attention to the wonderful, intricate signs hanging from the building and shops. There is a lot to see here, from the Neu Residence of the Prince Bishops, to their beautiful Rose Garden, to the Bamberg Cathedral to museums and bridges. Walk around and enjoy the city that was, lucky for us, not bombed during the war.
The bridge connecting the Old Town is really lovely too, so be sure to stroll across it. Check out a bakery, have a wonderful German pretzel or kuchen (cake), or try their famous Rauchbier, smoked beer (an acquired taste I was told, unless you like beer that tastes like bacon!).
Make sure that you have lots of time to explore, but you can walk to most of the...
