Golgatha Biergarten — Restaurant in Berlin

It was 2 years ago, but we didn't like it. The vibe was sleepy chill. Young parents with babies and kids seem to congregate here. Most tables had signs saying they're reserved. It felt like an odd vibe. Babies took a stroll wherever, going into the restaurant, getting in the way of the servers, with parents not to be seen or didn't care because they were so involved in their conversations. They were okay with their kids throwing the biergarten's rocks onto the stairs and things or were not paying attention to their offspring that they cared. It was a very weird vibe. Go here if you have a baby, toddler, or very young kids. Beer was okay, person working there was very nice, it was pretty empty when we were there, odd, narrow spacing. Yeah, odd vibe. We didn't feel comfortable, so we left before finishing our beer. It felt like it was a place exclusively for young parents with small children or babies. Crawling around, stumbling about with parents carelessly in their own world. Very weird. Tired and...

Eigentlich ist es wirklich schön, gleich in der Nachbarschaft einen Biergarten zu haben 🍺. Leider kommt hier nicht ganz die gemütliche Biergarten-Atmosphäre auf, wie ich sie aus Bayern kenne 🇩🇪🌳.

Es gibt zwar ein paar Schaukeln, die sind aber fast immer belegt. Die Bierbänke stehen sehr eng beieinander, sodass man schnell seinem Nachbarn im Rücken liegt. Im Sommer gibt es außerdem ein großes Problem: Wespen 🐝! Man muss ständig den Platz wechseln, und wenn man dann noch in der prallen Sonne sitzt, droht gleich der nächste Sonnenbrand ☀️. Ein paar Sonnenschirme und etwas mehr Platz zwischen den Tischen würden hier sicher Wunder wirken.

Das Bier ist in Ordnung 🍻. Als Vegetarier freue ich mich, dass es eine vegetarische Bratwurst gibt 🌱, aber leider ist sie ziemlich geschmacklos und nicht besonders gut gewürzt. Außerdem dauert es recht lange, bis sie fertig ist. Man bekommt bei der Bestellung so einen Kasten, der laut piept und blinkt, wenn das Essen abholbereit ist – praktisch, aber auch ein bisschen ungemütlich.

Was mir noch aufgefallen ist: Das Personal könnte freundlicher sein 🙂. Man merkt eben, dass man in Berlin ist. Aus New York kenne ich einen deutlich herzlicheren Service, und ein etwas fröhlicherer Umgangston würde hier sicher einiges ausgleichen.

Insgesamt wäre es schön, wenn man versuchen würde, noch ein bisschen mehr von dieser bayerischen Biergarten-Atmosphäre herüberzubringen 🌿🥨.

It’s really nice to have a beer garden right in the neighborhood 🍺. Unfortunately, it doesn’t quite capture the cozy Bavarian beer garden atmosphere I know from southern Germany 🇩🇪🌳.

There are a few swings, but they’re almost always taken. The beer benches are set up very close together, so you often end up bumping backs with your neighbor. In summer, there’s also a big problem: wasps 🐝! You constantly have to change seats, and if you’re stuck in the blazing sun, you risk getting a sunburn ☀️. A few umbrellas and a bit more space between the tables would definitely help.

The beer is fine 🍻. As a vegetarian, I appreciate that they offer a vegetarian sausage 🌱, but unfortunately it’s quite bland and not very well seasoned. On top of that, it always takes a long time before it’s ready. When you order, you get one of those buzzers that beeps and flashes loudly when your food is done – practical, but not very cozy.

One more thing: the staff could be a little friendlier 🙂. It definitely has that typical Berlin vibe, but coming from New York, I’m used to warmer, more welcoming service. A bit more cheerfulness from the team would go a long way.

All in all, it would be great if they managed to bring a little more of that authentic Bavarian beer garden...

Out of the beer gardens I have frequented during my time in Berlin, this one does not stand out. They are not allowed to play music and it lacks the cool, eclectic atmosphere found at many of the other Biergartens in Berlin. It is tucked away inside of Viktoriapark-which is a plus if Viktoriapark was your destination. It also serves a small selection of rather delicious German specialties (sausage and the like). It depends on what sort of experience you are after but for me, this is not even close to being the best...
