Hands down the BEST FALAFEL sandwich with Sudanese peanut butter sauce in Berlin. Why is that? This place takes pride in the quality and flavor of their falafels first, unlike the chain restaurant Sahara where the texture of the falafel is dough-like with very little flavor (It's as though they cut their falafel mix with a grain of some sort, which saves them money down the road but also brings the quality and flavor down). The falafels at Khartoum restaurant, on the other hand, are so green and well spiced that even alone the flavors are bursting. Not to mention, they include the whole coriander seeds in their falafel mix, which takes the flavor to a whole new level! Their peanut sauce itself is thick, uniquely spiced, and it's packed with lots of vibrant flavors. You can add additional Sudanese spicy sauce (as I did - YUM) or have it the original way. If you love Sudanese peanut butter sauce in your falafel, and you are used to eating them in Berlin but have not tried Khartoum, you should give this place a try!! It's a game changer. Ok, I'm done writing now and will be going to get a sandwich from Khartoum right away, lol....
Read moreWe went on a friend's recommendation. First impressions are misleading. it’s tiny and has little kerb appeal. Once you’ve overcome that, it's brilliant. Probably the best falafel I have ever tasted and, yes, the peanut sauce is amazing. A stunning vegetarian mix dish comes with a very generous combination of superbly spiced goodies. The hot sauce is not for the faint hearted but is amazing. Although you will probably leave sober (no alcohol served here) you will not leave Khartoum hungry. Portion sizes are very generous and the staff are great. Nothing costs more that 7.50€. A real bonus if you're on a budget. Also worth the trip to this area for the amazing bars and atmosphere on Oranienstraße. We will definitely go back there next...
Read moreI came here after reading about this place on Maps. It’s a little confusing to find, especially at night, although it’s conveniently located a minute’s walk from the U-bahn. The sign was firmly lit so wasn’t easy to spot at night.
I ordered the kafta halloumi sandwich. Although the service is a little slow (there’s only one person working the tiny kitchen), it’s well worth the wait. The sandwich is extremely filling and has a unique blend of flavours with the taste of the meat and fried cheese, the peanut sauce and spicy sauce. The prices are also incredible.
First time trying Sudanese food and wasn’t...
