Ki Kuriya — Restaurant in Berlin

As always, I cannot fault the food here. Beautifully presented and delicious. The decor and atmosphere is amazing too (look at the ceiling!). I've been here maybe ten times before and have always recommended it to others. Easily 5 star, usually..

However, the experience was totally let down by the conduct of one of the waiters. Before we'd even ordered, he came over and demanded to know who was considering sushi. Six, of our group of nine, said we would probably take individual sushi meals, at around 12 Euros each. He indicated this was pointless and that it would better to order a group sushi meal for six (not listed on the menu). We agreed, assuming this shared group meal would be around the same price of six individual ones, so around 70 Euros. It came to 150 Euros! The waitress in charge eventually accepted our argument and agreed to reduce the price to 120, before then changing it again to 125. Obviously the mountain of sushi was impressive, though way beyond what we could eat and so so clearly not what we originally wanted. Is it good customer service to aggressively tell people they don't want to order something in order to get double the money from them?

This restaurant had far better service when it opened. They need to be careful.

Tip: Ignore all recommendations of the staff and order exactly what you want from the menu. If you get this waiter, he will go for...

Edit: Seems like crispy duck caused me some stomach issues in next 2 days, like other fellow wrote here. :/

We went there for lunch/dinner. I had rice meal with crispy duck. Where it got confusing is I ordered it with ginger souce, but that was actually soy souce with traces of ginger. Have I known that I would not have ordered it, as I dont eat soy souce. Realized that when they brough it and I let them know that is not what I've expected and gave them opportunity to open dialog and maybe somehow find middle ground and resolve the situation. That did not happen. They responded by convincing me this is ginger souce and that's pretty much all. Ok - I told them that they should at least mark it as soy souce on the menu to make it clear and avoid this in future. Not sure they understood and it was clear I am not happy about it - btw, the dish costs 16 euros. Impeccable service, beautiful interior and delicious food!! This visit was just amazing in every aspect! First, we called only a few hours ahead for a birthday reservation and they gave us a nice table. The waiters were super enthusiastic and really took the time to make us some recommendations. The starters were absolutely delicious and we finished every plate completely. Then they even put on birthday music and lit up a candle fountain when they started serving us our big sushi set in a huge boat and they were checking on us regularly in between to make sure we had a great dinner.
