My adult "kid" has lived in Berlin for many, many years. I last visited however in 2013, so my week-long visit is more than special. When I told them I wanted to take their "bestie" and them to a special place, Lily Burger was their choice.
After briefly considering the beef ribs, Nashville Chicken and vegan options (all of which sounded delicious), each of us selected a different style of the many hamburgers they offer. The restaurant is certified Halal which delighted me and the hamburgers patties were all pure and clean beef with no pork. They are served on a soft bun with house made pickles (sumptuous, with a slight enticing spicey finish) and slivered onion. They hamburgers are huge with a delicious sauce and the perfect mix of sides. The included sides were house made mac and cheese which was absolutely delicious and fresh and crunchy coleslaw. We had not eaten anything all day and it was near 4 p.m. so we ordered with doggie bags in mind. We decided on the ordered 1 add-on serving each of lemon garlic onion rings and Phill Cheesesteak fries and they were both incredible. We literally plowed into them savoring, the texture, high quality and savory steak melted cheese, and grilled onions which generously adorned the crispy French fries and the perfectly battered and fried onion rings all served hot and fresh.
The atmosphere is divey but overall comfy, which works for us. The food took the expected amount of time for food cooked to order and the result was amazing. We ordered too much food, certain that a midnight snack will later be in order on the leftovers. The staff helped us package the large amount of food we were too full to eat, yes the servings really are huge.
Service was friendly and efficient. Unsure if he is the manager or owner, but Daniel (Danny?) was on-spot, gracious and interesting for me to chat with during our visit. A Ukrainian native, he has been in Berlin around 13-15 years and gave some excellent suggestions for my visit here.
We highly recommend this restaurant and will be back, either during this...
Read moreI visited this place because it was recommended by a friend and I sat down for lunch. I was at that time the only guest.
Ordering food here is a bit of a challenge because menu is a bit complicated and there is sooo much to choose from. I think they should make it easier as ordering food for first timers here or foreigners is a challenge.
Food is very tasty and my agnus beef burger was both tasty and delicious thanks to great ingredients inside. I ordered curly fries and i got sweet fries, mistake was made by a restaurant worker who, when I told him about it, neither apologized or offered substitution of any kind.
The before mentioned waiter was not very helpful either. I asked him to open the sun shade because it was very hot and sunny outside, he answered me that it cannot be opened yet?! That was the lamest exuse I ever heard in any restaurant. What does that even mean "yet"? I ordered a large Carlsberg and whilst the beer was nice and fresh, waiter literally throwed the coaster on the table and the beer after that. I don't want my beer to be shaken and I certainly don't want the waiter to be so rude and aggressive.
Place is nicely decorated and it has that something...but...although food was very good, service is not. I don't really care that they are using foreign work force, I care that they are not nice and in a line of business where customer service is important, that's a turning point for me.
I will rate it 3 stars and hope when I come back next time, staff...
Read moreI will start this of with reviewing the service. The employees were very friendly. Due to the large and confusing menu, we had to ask a lot of questions which the server was able to answer quickly. However, when it came to ordering, the server was also confused about soem details of the menu and had to ask another employee how to handle our order. At the end of our meal, we were offered a complimentary tequilla shot from the bar.
Next, the atmosphere. Set underneath some busy railway tracks it is an interesting and unique setting. Almost like sitting inside a bunker/wine cellar/cave. The seating was comfortable but the table was a bit too high when sitting on the sofas. The floors leading to the bathrooms and in the bathrooms were very very slippery, almost as if someone had mopped the floor with soap but forgot to rinse. One unique feature of this place was that we were given some markers and were allowed to write/draw on the walls.
Lastly, the food. The food presentation on very hot plates was interesting but also kind of hard to work with. We had "Tower Burgers" so we were not quite sure how to tackle the food that was impaled on a metal spike, so we just cut through the layers. It was a new way to eat a burger. The burger was perfectly cooked to order and was very delicious.
The prices were very acceptable. I would recommend this place to anyone who is looking for a new...
