A Truly Memorable Dining Experience at Quanto Basta
My wife and I had the pleasure of dining at Quanto Basta last night, and it was an unforgettable experience from start to finish.
As soon as we stepped in, we were struck by how elegant, well-kept, and welcoming the space felt. It immediately set the tone for what turned out to be a wonderful evening. We were warmly greeted by the patron and host Gloria, whose beaming smile and kind demeanor made us feel right at home. She quickly guided us to our table and walked us through the menu and the different possibilities with clarity and care.
Since my wife is vegan and I’m vegetarian, Gloria suggested we try some plant-based dishes that Chef Fabio—also the patron—is currently developing for an upcoming expansion of the menu. Needless to say, we were absolutely thrilled!
Each course was a delight, showing an incredible level of thoughtfulness, balance, and creativity. We started with two outstanding appetizers: a radicchio dish with a homemade miso mayo and marinated figs—which, according to the chef, will be one of the first new vegan options officially added to the menu—and some delicate beetroot ravioli that were simply divine.
Next came two pasta dishes: one featuring spaghetti in a beetroot cream topped with charred leek sauce and vegan cheese, and the other a stunning plate of linguine with oyster leaf and lemon sauce. Every bite was a discovery.
We finished with a vegan cheesecake that completely blew us away—creamy, flavorful, and beautifully presented.
To accompany our meal, we asked for an alcohol-free option, and Gloria recommended an exceptional non-alcoholic wine made from quince. It was the perfect match, and just another example of the attention to detail that defined the entire evening.
Throughout the dinner, Gloria described each dish with precision and passion, elevating the whole experience to something truly special. Her knowledge, warmth, and professionalism were the perfect complement to Chef Fabio’s inspired cuisine.
We feel lucky to have caught them in this moment of culinary experimentation, and it’s clear that something exciting is on the horizon as they finalize these new plant-based creations.
Quanto Basta is a hidden gem in Berlin, where exquisite food and heartfelt service come together to create something truly memorable. Highly, highly...
Read moreQuanto Basta is a new culinary destination on Leibniz Straße, just a block up north off of busy Kantstraße, tucked away from the buzz. Tbh my advanced kitchen Italian didn’t help, I needed to look the name up. It means “Just about right”, in German “gerade genug”. The name, it occurs to me, fits very well: Everything about this small place says understatement: the under title “Ristorante Italiano”, the bare brick walls inside - there’s only one dining room -, the short menu. No screaming ads, no shi-shi decor, kind of a slow opening in what used to be a cozy Tuscan family-run place, L’Olivo.
Once you’re settled you understand where they’re coming from. Everything at QB is “just enough”. The focus on food, and at that, on creative food, show-casing the skills and the art of cooking rooted in Italian tradition, but deconstructed, then reinvented. Take a look at the pics.
Hailing from Abruzzo but in Berlin for a few years by now, Alessandro and Gloria are warm and gracious hosts, going over the top to explain their menu, make you taste the wines, all for you to enjoy their food and the experience. So just the opposite of QB. All they need now is more fine Italian food lovers to come in...
Read moreThe food here was beautifully presented and of very high quality — everything looked and tasted luxurious. You can tell that a lot of care goes into the preparation. The flavors were refined, and overall the dishes felt special.
One dish I would not necessarily recommend is the melanzane. It wasn’t prepared in the typical Italian style, and while interesting, it didn’t quite meet our expectations. On the other hand, the desserts were outstanding. Both the cheesecake and the tiramisu were exceptional — rich, flavorful, and absolutely worth ordering. They were easily the highlight of the meal.
The main drawback of our visit was the service speed. Only one person was serving the entire restaurant, which meant the waiting times were very long. We waited quite a while for our food, which was frustrating at times. However, once the dishes arrived, the excellent quality of the food made up for it.
Overall, despite the slower service, this restaurant is well worth a visit for the quality and taste of the dishes, especially the desserts. With a bit more staff or faster service (one person more bc this one girl was Running, this could easily be a...
