Visiting Berlin, this place was close to our hotel. The food was Ok, portion sizes were smaller than comparable restaurants in the same block. The service was ok until this happened: waitress comes to our table and says the restaurant is closing; it was posted on Google the closing time was still 2 hours away, so we were surprised. Even more shocked when the 4 people at the table next to us were going to order dessert and it was denied by the waitress. She said the chef decides to close early when there are no many customers in the room. She came back to our table 1 Minute later and verbally tells us the bill amount: 43 euros, no paper receipt, nothing in writing. We give her a 50 euro bill and she disappears with the change. We had to go over the bar and ask her to give us back the change. It’s for us to decide if we leave a tip or not. We did leave a small tip to her but we left with a bitter taste and the certainty that we would neither come back to this place, nor recommend it to anyone. Sometimes when you don't know the language and the place doesn't know English, a smile, and Google translate is a god send. We noticed the restaurant between our way to the hotel. It looked cozy and looked like German home cooking. The quaint rustic restaurant was busy the night we went. The waitress which looked like the owner gave us a quick nod to tell she saw us as she was delivering some yummy looking food to a table. We waited by the bar. She led us to a corner table and German menu. Thank goodness for Google translate. It was enough to figure out the menu and also to say Very good once the food was delivered. She gave us a great smile. Thumbs up and another beer! We certainly knew our schnitzel was being made as we can hear the pounding from the kitchen.
