Earlier today I entered Risa, joining a slow but short queue which gave me ample time to study the menu so that at the time of ordering I was able to quickly communicate my order. This foresight was certainly not shared by my hungry contemporaries who seemed inundated by the significant and complex menu. This is one of the reasons that I believe the queue is slow.
I ordered the rotisserie chicken offering with fries, aioli (thum), coleslaw, pickles and the customary bread. I chose the scharfe sauce which was very spicy, but good. My decision to order coleslaw was not remiss as I frequently had to use it as coolant. I also ordered a bottle of water which I would highly recommend as the food is well-seasoned.
I waited approximately 10 minutes for my food which is fine. I went at off-peak hours. I imagine visiting Risa at peak hours when hungry may be a frustrating experience.
Now onto the food. The chicken was tender and had interesting spices on top of the heavy umami-esque taste. The cutlery was not sufficient to eat the chicken. It was too flimsy and later on in the meal i actually ended up chewing on a piece of my fork by accident. But the chicken is still delicious.
The pickles were odd and of the salty kind. I would not recommend purchasing them unless you are visiting Risa with a few friends as although they were delicious, I could not find a suitable time to eat them in what is already a fairly salty meal. The coleslaw fit in well as it was sweet.
I only deduct one star due to the slightly long waiting times which to be fair are not significantly longer than similar eateries such as Huhnerhaus. But it was my favourite rotisserie chicken experience. So for this it has to be 5...
Read moreBest fried chicken in Germany. Fairly priced and always delicious. Be prepared to wait in a super chaotic "line" but your patience and persistence will be rewarded by super juicy, delightfully crispy, intensely flavorful fried chicken. They also offer rotisserie chicken but if you are in the market for that then you're way better off going down the street to city chicken. Stick with fried chicken at Risa, this is what they do better than anyone else in this country. Delicious coleslaw is a nice bonus. The corn is always a bit soggy but it's nice that they throw it in with the family menus. Fries are tasteless, definitely go with the wedges which are super flavorful and taste way fresher. The chicken sandwich (chicken burger if you are English) and filet bites (chichen fingers if you are American) are delicious but you won't get the nice salty, fatty, yummy full flavor that you get when going with the straight up chicken "Kross" pieces (breast, thigh, and drumstick). Combi menu 2 is the pro choice with three big pieces, wedges, Cole slaw, and a coke for 6.50 -...
Read moreAs an American expat living in Berlin, there are sometimes those few foods that you miss from the States -- fried chicken being one of them. Finding this place could not have made me happier, and honestly, I come here more often than a healthy diet (or my finances... oops) should allow, but the friendly staff and the delicious food always seem to convince me otherwise. They nail their dishes every time, and even though they get really busy during meal times, quality never suffers. Prices are also very reasonable, considering the sheer amount of food that comes with each meal.
This place is my go-to fried chicken...
