Ganesha Indisches Restaurant in Köln seit 1987 — Restaurant in Cologne

We had lunch at Ganesha today and were very pleased with the service and the quality of the food. Having tried out some India restaurants this one Is the best around the area and as I learned one of the oldest Indian restaurants in cologne.

The wait time might have been longer then are used to compared to other restaurants in general but that gave us time for talk.

The naan is home made and tastes excellent you should certainly order it along the meal.

The lunch was delicious. In my case I had ordered chicken tikki masala which came with rice and to my surprise, next to the meet in the curry, with a spicy been salad.

All three ordered dishes were tasty and plates were returned almost clean.

We were especially pleased by the balance of spicy ingredients. Although well spiced (as announced in the menu next to the meal) it doesn’t reach a pain point while eating or afterwards.

I am travelling for the very first time in Cologne and being a muslim my intention is to look at a halal restaurant.

In Europe, there are a lot of Indian restaurants who serve halal food, but it's better to always ask first.

So I made a call to this Ganesha Restaurant, and the person who took the call, was so rude.

He was saying - Why did I ask? In his 20 years of restaurant business nobody asked for halal, a lot of turkish people came to his restaurant and ate. No one has asked him before.

On the other side I was just surprised, I didn't figure out what the problem was with asking him whether they served Halal or Not.

And all of his bla bla. All of a sudden he hung out on the phone.

Thank God I have not been there in person, from a phone call I have impressed - how rude he is.

While we didn't intend to have Indian, we had a great experience here. The menu is extensive, featuring tandooris, curries, and biryanis, so expect anxiety. Staff will help you a bit though and aren't afraid of giving their recommendations. While ordering my Lamb Mango Mangalore, the waiter noticed I also had a mango lassi and recommended something a little more spicy. Enjoyed the recommendation very much.
